When a scent feels “warm” or “textured,” it can be more than poetic language.
The brain experiences fragrance through a combination of olfactory input, memory, expectation and other sensory pathways. Some volatile compounds can also engage the trigeminal system - the pathway involved in sensations such as cooling, warmth and tingling.
