A new rug for my bathroom! Canvas rugs are so pretty and easy. We all need easy right? No washing machines, non- slip, and a new design for each and every bathroom. make it unique, make it yours. I love my Shell Rug!
Now that the borders are marked I have to figure how to mark out the design. Designs are handpainted, traced, stamped, drawn, and each rug is different. sometimes I have to sleep on it and the solution will come.
Now I begin the process of how to apply a design on to a canvas rug. That's half the work! It's one thing to paint a small picture buty now I have to figure oout the proportions of the design on to a 7' x 30" runner.
I'll take you step by step on how I make a custom design for a client.

What do you do when your old rug is worn and faded beyond repair? Ask Laurel to make you a replica on a canvas rug! Some rugs carry memories and can't be thrown away. These are Sherwin Williams paint colors. I laid them out on a sampler so Leigh can see them clearly to make sure these are her color choices.
I only work with color codes, with any color company. Don't tell me Red, or Blue, we both need clarity on shades and tones.
All the groundwork is setting us up for a successful design. That means you are thrilled with the result.

It looks goofy and awkward but sometimes a simple hand-painted sample as a visual of a design idea really clarifies things. Even if it's making clear what you DON'T want. Leigh wants the rug to be less busy than the original Chorotega Design. After seeing the terracotta color on a larger scale, she opted for the Flower Pot Red and Dark Chocolate for the main border colors.
