Ein Duo in besonderer Besetzung – der Saxophonist Max Glanz und der Gitarrist Parijat Moumon verweben Jazz mit weltmusikalischen Einflüssen zu einem Sound, der den markanten Klang des Sopransaxophons mit der vielschichtigen Klangfarbe der Spanischen Gitarre emulgiert.

Das Saiteninstrument wiegt sich nicht nur in der Rolle des Begleiters, sondern präsentiert sich als eigenständige Stimme, die auch weltmusikalische Elemente aufgreift: mit perkussiven Impulsen und atmosphärischen Effekten kreiert Parijat Moumon die Grundbasis für die Duo-Interpretation des Repertoires bestehend aus bekannten Stücken von Komponisten wie Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Richie Beirach u.a. Max Glanz antwortet am Sopransaxophon mit melodischer sowie rhythmischer Raffinesse und der Fähigkeit, in seinem Ton die Gestalt verschiedener Blasinstrumente aufscheinen zu lassen.

Im Zentrum steht das Zusammenspiel – kein Instrument kann sich in dieser Besetzung verstecken. Beide Musiker teilen sich die Verantwortung für Melodie, Harmonie und Rhythmus. Im gegenseitigen Wechselspiel entsteht dadurch eine Konversation, welche sowohl auf der Neugestaltung der ausgewählten Werke als auch auf gemeinsamer Improvisation fußt.

Das Paula Steimer Quintet vereint fünf herausragende Kölner Jazzmusiker:innen auf einer Bühne. Mit Jakob Görris am Schlagzeug, Bela Bluche am Kontrabass,
Philip Weyand am Klavier, Frederik Hesse an der Trompete und Paula Steimer am Saxofon erwartet das Publikum ein energetischer und
facettenreicher Konzertabend.

Die Band präsentiert ein spannendes Programm aus brandneuen Kompositionen, die erst in diesem Jahr entstanden sind, sowie ausgewählten Stücken aus dem
Debütalbum des Quintetts, die an diesem Abend ebenfalls zu hören sein werden.

Joel Frahm is known to all jazz-lovers as a modern icon of the tenor saxophone. An
unsurpassed emotional projection and technical ability always characterize his playing which draws on the breadth the American musical tradition including jazz, funk, rock and blues. „Joel Frahm is widely known in the jazz world for his effusive creativity, rollicking positive spirit, technical fluency and versatility,” says the Ottawa Citizen.
Joel’s new trio is an international affair, consisting of Toronto’s most prolific bandleader Ernesto Cervini (Myriad3, Turboprop) on drums and composer/bandleader/bassist Dan Loomis (of The Wee Trio, TS Monk) on bass.
The Joel Frahm Trio released their latest album, “The Bright Side” (Anzic Records) in 2021 to rave reviews across the globe including a 4-star review in Downbeat Magazine and a feature on NPR’s “Fresh Air”
