Hélène's Shenandoah would like to express her sympathy to all of you who have lost loved-ones; as well as, to those who have lost there belongings, and to those who injured.
May God bless you abundantly and see you through the grief and the pain by gibing you health, courage and help to stand again and to go on.

D-SHWA member, Helene Jonquet -Eugene is a wonderful mix of Southern France and North Africa. During her childhood she received valuable knowledge of herbs, spices in food, tea, oils, and cosmetics for culinary, medicinal or beauty and wellness purposes. They were so much a part of her nature that she became an herbs and spices trader at 16 years of age!
Her actual journey in the beauty and health business started at the age of 18 after the death of her mother who owned a beauty institute. Helene inherited it and proceeded to invest in herself by attending a famous beauty and wellness school “Susini Esthétique” in Aix-En-Provence, France.
In 1988, she received her diploma with distinction in aesthetic cosmetology, perfumery and massage therapy. She also studied and attended many workshops and trainings held by name brand companies and became certified in laser therapy, stone and bamboo massage. Helene has also been working with plastic surgeons in skin preparation and to help healing after surgery, as well as dermatologists. As her knowledge grew, she sought out more and more natural products and eventually became an aromatherapist with ITEC and IFPA diplomas.
In 1993, Helene sold her business in France and came to the Caribbean for two weeks’ vacation and never went back. She spent nine years in Saint Martin, practicing in-home visits part time and part time managing two offices. In 1995, she attended law school classes at the “Université de droit Antilles/Guyanes” as well as trading and manufacturing herbs, coffee, cocoa and spices. From there she moved to California, again practicing home visits, trading spices and teaching a course “Health on your plate” in a culinary institute to influence a healthier choice of food.
In 2003, Helene came to Dominica where she offered home visits and trading/manufacturing herbs and spices. Finally in 2007, she started her spa “Helene’s Shenandoah”… her dream realized. She offers her clients aromatherapy facials, manicure or pedicure with Swiss hand or foot reflexology, aromatherapy massage and home care treatment. Consequently, she considers the entire being and situation of the client using custom made treatments triggering through aromas the olfactory center of the brain which is the same center as the healing center. Her theme is “Keep Your Spirit, Soul and Body in Good Balance”. Her logo is a blue eye, not only because it is the color of her eyes but because blue means health, wellness and eternity as well as purity, resurrection and life.
Helene’s philosophy, woven from her life experience, is that beauty is not just an external and superficial matter consisting on putting on make-up, but rather a deep vibration coming from within the spirit radiating throughout the body. She also knows that health and wellness are two different states. One can experience health but not wellness and one can be health challenged and still experience full wellness. Helene understands that if we are keeping our spirit, soul and body in good balance our health and wellness are balanced as well. So when she hears beauty is not wellness she speaks out strongly to the contrary. Seeing ourselves beautiful is a very personal matter in that, if having nails, hair and make -up done helps us to be well, so be it. Her mission is to inform her clients and the public what cosmetics are, how to use them and what to avoid as well as supporting health of the body through beauty therapy, massages, and aromatherapy.

The Dominica Spa, Health + Wellness Association was invited to be on the judging panel of this annual event. Helene Jonquet owner of Shenandoah Spa, and our Treasurer was kept busy assessing the ten students who presented their ideas.
