Dear Readers,

Growing up I never really had female role models. Most women in film and media were either super models, side chicks or psychopaths.
I always wanted to be like Robin Hood, who stole from the rich to feed the poor, but never like Marian, who waited for him to come back safely from his missions. I dreamt about going on adventures like Indiana Jones, then I wanted to be a lawyer like Ben Matlock. Not one female figure to look up to and inspire to be like.

Over a decade later came Lara Croft, badass and even better adventures, but she wasn’t created for girls. It was easier to dream of becoming Indiana Jones rather than Lara Croft, in her size zero hot shorts and full chested white T-shirt.

Girls need to see successful women with normal jeans sizes, high IQs and who love themselves for who they are. Girls need to see that they can be whatever the heck they want to be and that they are not defined by what society thinks of them.

This issue celebrates girls these days “Banat el Ayam Di” in all their might, wit and awesomeness. These mould breaking girls are the women we all need to have in our lives and aspire to be like. To all these awesome girls who are brave enough to follow their hearts!
