Before taking this character to the stage at , I created this full test on myself to explore the balance of the face, the gradients, the contrast and the overall direction of the character.
The final stage version evolved from this first test, but the foundation remained the same: light, shadow, volume and intention.

Think contrast 🤍🩷
Contrast is what gives a look visual impact. It helps create hierarchy, makes certain elements stand out, and gives the overall design more presence.
In this look, I’m using one of my favorite types of contrast: saturation contrast.
It’s the difference between a soft base and more vibrant colors. That contrast is what helps the colors pop and creates a strong focal point.
And of course, this is just one example. There are many different types of contrast you can use to build bold, artistic and visually stronger makeup looks.
