In contrast to the glossy production values of his previous film, North by Northwest filmed in 1959, Hitchcock shot Psycho cheaply in only 30 days, in black and white, using the television crew from his series Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955-62). Hitchcock used two cameras for many scenes, enabling him to edit together shots from different angles without interrupting the flow of his actors’ performances.
