Radiofrequency (RF) is one of the ways I treat skin laxity, sagging and loss of firmness in clinic. I work with two RF modes: fractional RF and multipolar RF.

Fractional RF is a needle-free treatment. It uses a grid of RF pins that sit on the skin surface and deliver energy in a fractional pattern, creating precise micro-thermal zones within the skin. This stimulates keratinocytes and fibroblasts and supports collagen remodelling, which helps to tighten and firm areas where the skin has started to lose elasticity.

Fractional RF is focused on the skin layers, not the deeper SMAS layer. It is different from HIFU or ultrasound SMAS lifting and is not designed to melt fat, which helps to reduce the risk of unwanted hollowing in the face.

I use fractional RF for the treatment of mild to moderate laxity in more specific zones, looser or crepey skin around the eyes, mouth, jawline or neck, and to support a more defined contour in the lower face and neck, usually as a course of treatments.

Amongst other benefits, improvements in collagen and elasticity can also soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the treated areas over time.

In the Signature RF treatments, fractional RF is combined with multipolar RF in the same session, so both modes work together to firm and tighten the face and neck.
