It’s time we celebrated middle-aged women more.
Anyone that says middle age or older isn’t the best time can kiss my ass!
We’re constantly told to fear getting older. Fear wrinkles. Fear menopause. Fear grey hairs. Fear becoming invisible.
Meanwhile, middle-aged women are out here holding families together, building careers, navigating life’s biggest challenges, supporting everyone around them and somehow still finding the strength to keep going.
- We’ve earned our laugh lines.
- We’ve earned our wisdom.
- We’ve earned the right to stop apologising for taking up space.
As I’ve got older, I’ve realised that middle age isn’t something to mourn.
It’s something to celebrate.
I care less about what people think.
I’m more confident setting boundaries.
I’m more comfortable being myself.
I have less patience for bu****it and more appreciation for the things that actually matter.
I wouldn’t swap the woman I am today for the woman I was 20 years ago.

Today I turn 46.
And if there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s this…
Life is far too short to spend it waiting.
Waiting for the right time.
Waiting until you’re more confident.
Waiting until the kids are older.
Waiting until work settles down.
Waiting until life feels easier.
Because the truth is, life never really stops happening.
The older I’ve got, the more I’ve realised that confidence isn’t something you magically wake up with one day. It’s built every time you trust yourself, take action and do the thing that’s been sitting at the back of your mind for years.
My birthday wish for every woman is simple:
Stop waiting.
Take up space.
Be more of yourself.
Protect your peace.
Spend your time on the people, places and experiences that matter.
Trust yourself more.
And remember that it’s never too late to change your story.
I’m 46 today and I can honestly say I’m happier, more confident and more comfortable in my own skin than I’ve ever been.
Not because life is perfect.
Not because everything has gone to plan.
But because I’ve stopped waiting for permission to live it.
If today is the reminder you needed to start that thing you’ve been putting off, take it.
The future version of you will thank you.

Some of life lately - 2 fabulous weekends
03/06/2026
For years, I thought ageing was something to fight.
Like many women, I bought into the idea that younger was somehow better.
- Fewer wrinkles.
- Tighter skin.
- Looking a certain way.
Then life gave me a stage 4 cancer diagnosis…. My perspective changed.
When your future becomes uncertain, you realise something very quickly:
- Growing old is a privilege.
- Not everyone gets the opportunity.
I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few years thinking about what really matters.
I’ve realised that most of the things I used to worry about don’t even make the list anymore.
What matters is:
- Laughing until your stomach hurts.
- Spending time with people you love.
- Doing work that lights you up.
- Being yourself.
- Actually living.
- Not waiting.
- F**K CONFORMING!!!!
Not constantly trying to become the version of yourself that you think other people will approve of.
I think too many women spend years waiting for permission.
- Permission to change.
- Permission to be happy.
- Permission to put themselves first.
- Permission to be themselves.
Nobody is coming to give you that permission.
You have to give it to yourself.
The sooner you do, the more life you get to live.
What’s one thing you’d do differently if you stopped worrying what everyone else thought?

If I wanted to stop sabotaging my weight loss, I would do this…
Stop dropping calories too low
Aggressive deficits don’t speed fat loss long term.
They reduce energy, NEAT (daily movement), training output and increase fatigue.
This is metabolic adaptation, your body downregulates to conserve energy, making progress slower, not faster.
Stop restricting to the point of cravings
Severe restriction increases hunger hormones (ghrelin) and reduces satiety (leptin).
This drives food focus, cravings and overeating.
The result is not lack of discipline, it’s a predictable physiological response.
Drop the “free weekend” mentality
A weekly deficit is what drives fat loss.
If you create a deficit Monday–Friday but eat in a large surplus Saturday–Sunday, the deficit is cancelled out.
Consistency across the week matters more than being “perfect” for a few days.
Stop saying “I’ll start again tomorrow”
One off-plan meal does not impact fat loss.
Repeated cycles of overeating and restarting do.
The ability to adjust and continue is what drives long-term results.
Understand scale fluctuations
Body weight can fluctuate 1–3lbs daily due to:
- Water retention
- Hormonal changes
- Sodium intake
- Carbohydrate intake (glycogen storage)
Fat gain does not happen overnight.
Reacting emotionally to the scale often leads to poor decisions - no more F**K IT mentality... 5 secs on the scale does not undo your 7 days hard work.
Fat loss requires structure, consistency and understanding — not extremes.

Thank you Scotland 🏴
Had the best week taking Vandy Pandy out for her first trip if the year with Mr travel buddy Paddy (friends since we we're 16 year old in the Navy).
A week was certainly not enough to see such a beautiful part of the world.
Bonus was having a day with my old Dubai Head of Dept - Joyce the legend in Dundee.
I'm knackered - but grinning like a Cheshire cat.

How I lost a stone and completely changed my body shape
Here is my 2021 body transformation.
At the time, I was:
* Burnt out
* Overworked
* Constantly running on empty
I finally decided to invest in myself.
I started lifting weights and following a structured training routine.
Over time, I lost around a stone, but more importantly, I completely changed my body shape.
* Muscle replaced body fat
* Strength replaced burnout
* Confidence came back
I even set myself the challenge of entering a bodybuilding competition.
But if you know my story, you’ll know I never made it to stage.
Because shortly after this photo, I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer.
Which is a story for another day.
What this photo reminds me of is this:
* You don’t need extremes
* You don’t need perfect conditions
* You just need structure, support, and consistency

You’re in a calorie deficit… but not losing weight?
Then you’re not actually in a deficit.
This isn’t complicated, but it does require accuracy.
Here’s some of the common issues I come across:
How did you calculate your calories?
If your intake doesn’t match your output, it’s not a deficit.
Low steps = low energy burn.
If you’re doing 3–5k steps a day, your calorie needs are lower than you think. Generic calculators often overestimate.
Are you weighing your food?
Tracking without weighing = guesswork.
Research shows people underestimate intake by up to 50%.
That “small” bowl of oats or pasta is often double what you think.
Are you accounting for alcohol?
Alcohol = 7 calories per gram.
Your body prioritises burning it first, which pauses fat burning.
Then add increased food intake and poor sleep after, it all adds up.
Are you tracking the small bites?
This is where most people slip.
Picking at food, kids’ leftovers, “just a taste”…
Easily 200–300+ calories per day, enough to wipe out a deficit.
Are you tracking oils and dressings?
Fat = 9 calories per gram.
1 tbsp oil = 120 calories.
A “drizzle” is rarely just one tablespoon.
Fat loss is not about doing more.
It’s about getting the basics right, CONSISTENTLY
Be honest… which one are you not tracking?

10kg down in 7 weeks, but the weight loss is only part of the story.
This is Katherine
Katherine came to me overworked, overwhelmed, deep in menopause symptoms, and feeling completely stuck with her health and fat loss.
The first thing we focused on wasn’t smashing workouts.
It was nutrition.
Because when hormones, sleep, stress, and energy are dysregulated, the body needs consistency, not restriction.
We focused on:
- Structured eating to stabilise hunger and reduce overeating
- Protein intake to support muscle retention, recovery, and fullness
- Fueling properly to support hormones, sleep quality, and energy
- Creating a calorie deficit without pushing stress levels even higher
Then we introduced movement gradually.
Katherine started at 5,000 steps per day because that felt manageable alongside her workload and lifestyle. We’ve now built that to 7,000 consistently.
Why?
Because consistency drives fat loss.
Not random motivation bursts.
Increasing movement slowly also improves:
- Recovery capacity
- Fitness levels
- Daily calorie expenditure
✅ Adherence long term
Education has also been a huge part of this process.
We’ve covered:
- Sleep quality and recovery
- Gut health and menopause
- Alcohol and its impact on fat loss
- Reducing negative self-talk and perfectionism
Only now, 7 weeks in have we introduced gym sessions.
Because building the foundations first matters.
Katherine still enjoys nights out, still has a demanding career, and still has a life outside fat loss.
The difference now?
She has structure, understanding, accountability, and a system that fits her life instead of fighting it.
10kg down.
Feeling better.
And this is just the start.

Food I eat on repeat to help manage menopause with no HRT while living on active treatment
In menopause, nutrition directly impacts:
- Weight regulation
- Energy levels
- Symptom management
Guessing doesn’t work.
On active treatment, it matters even more.
Steroids increase appetite.
Chemotherapy affects energy, digestion and routine.
Without structure, it’s easy for weight to climb or fluctuate.
So I keep it simple.
I eat the same types of meals on repeat that:
- Support appetite control
- Stabilise energy
- Make weight maintenance predictable
This is also exactly what supported my fat loss in the first place.
No overthinking.
No constantly changing foods.
Just structure that works.
