New Blog Post Chocolate & Roses

Our latest new product: Aloe & Avocado leave-in conditioner. This is new to the website but actually created about 4 years ago when I was supplying a hairdresser in France. This was her favourite and she used it on ALL her customers, to help with detangling and styling and to leave the hair nourished and sleek.

Saint John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) in full flower right now. I'm harvesting for making the antiseptic tincture, which despite a big batch having been made last year, is down to the scruds and needs re-upping. Identification seems to be the issue of the day--go out in nature with someone who knows the plants and experience them first-hand. Saint John's Wort is an herb of the sun and will grow in full sun areas. In the first year, it repines. In the second year, it goes up to flower. In the third year, often, it disappears. When you squeeze a bud between your thumbnails, you're going to get a bright red exudate--that is the hypericin, part of the medicinal activity of the plant. Antiinflammatory, antidepressant, a deep-seated nervine like no other, this plant is worth knowing and incorporating into homestyle self-sufficiency.

And so it begins. Happy days in the sunshine. Plants out-performing each other in beauty and service!
