JET HAS ACHIEVED THE MATRIX STANDARD!

We are incredibly proud to announce that JET Hairdressing Academy has successfully achieved the matrix Standard accreditation across both our Essex and London academies!

The matrix Standard recognises organisations that deliver high quality Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) something that sits right at the heart of the learner journey here at JET.

MEET SPENCER

From JET apprentice to salon owner, entrepreneur and educator!

With 15 years of experience in the hairdressing industry, Spencer’s journey has come full circle, having completed his own Level 3 Hairdressing Apprenticeship at JET before returning to inspire the next generation of hair professionals.

Spencer is the proud owner of two salons in Leigh-on-Sea and Benfleet, alongside developing his own luxury hair extension brand.

His passion for hairdressing began with a fascination for how something created with your own hands can completely transform not just someone’s appearance, but their confidence too.

“Hairdressing is a skilled trade, combining creativity, technical knowledge and craftsmanship. It’s about so much more than just hair; it’s about how you make people feel.”

What does Spencer love most about educating?

“Every learner is different, and that’s what I love. It’s about adapting the way you teach to suit the individual and finding that moment when everything suddenly clicks. Watching their understanding and confidence grow is incredibly rewarding.”

At JET, Spencer brings real-world salon experience into education, with a particular passion for creative colour, colour correction and helping learners develop the confidence and skills needed for a successful career.

Outside the academy?

When he’s not behind the chair, educating or working on his businesses, Spencer is a proud French Bulldog dad and a huge dog lover!

From learning at JET to teaching at JET, Spencer’s journey is a reminder of just how many opportunities a career in hairdressing can create.

MEET SOPHIE, JETS NEW TUTOR

Sophie’s hairdressing career began in London, where she had the opportunity to work on various shoots, shows and creative projects.

After leaving London, she continued to develop her career, completing her Colour Masters and becoming part of the Schwarzkopf Young Artistic Team, as well as the Fellowship Project Colour Team. These experiences allowed her to push her creativity, strengthen her technical knowledge and develop her passion for colour.

Now, with 14 years in the hairdressing industry, Sophie still works behind the chair with her own clients while running her own business.

Education feels like a natural progression for Sophie. She is passionate about sharing the knowledge and experience she has gained throughout her career and helping other hairdressers build their skills, confidence and creativity behind the chair.

She is excited to bring everything she has learned over the past 14 years into the academy and share it with the next generation of hairdressers.

TUTOR SPOTLIGHT

Meet Dawn!

Dawn has been passionate about hairdressing for 39 years and has spent over 20 years teaching and developing the next generation of hairdressers. Her career began in a local salon in Grays before moving to London to complete her Level 3 training, where she gained valuable experience working on creative projects, photo shoots and colour award applications.

Dawn later joined Toni & Guy City, progressing to Cutting Director and becoming part of the management team. After returning to Essex, she continued her salon career before moving into education, where she completed her Certificate in Education, Assessor and IQA qualifications.

Dawn is currently the Education Manager and IQAC at JET Hairdressing Academy, supporting both the Essex and London sites. Her role involves quality assuring assessments, supporting teacher development, overseeing learner progress and ensuring apprentices receive the highest standard of training and support. She is also a qualified Safeguarding Lead for learners and staff.

Alongside her management responsibilities, Dawn continues to teach practical and theory sessions, as she believes staying involved with learners is an important part of supporting their development. What she enjoys most is seeing learners grow in confidence, overcome challenges and achieve their career goals.

After nearly four decades in the industry, Dawn still has the same passion for hairdressing that she had as a child. She feels privileged to share her knowledge and experience and to help inspire the next generation of professional stylists.
