Hello everyone 👋🏻

​I wanted to come on here and explain how I've been feeling lately around the reality of running a small business.

​If I'm being totally honest, it's draining the life out of me. I've put so much hard work into building and maintaining Lucy Mae Nails these past few years and even though I don't do these 8 client days you see a lot of techs doing, I still feel drained and burned out every single week. I still work more than full time every single week. I haven't taken a sick day since 2024 and that was my only sick day I've had since starting my business!

​The reality for me is that I can no longer juggle working all these hours, take care of my Type 1 diabetes along with some other personal struggles I've been facing recently. It isn't sustainable.

​Therefore I will be completely changing my working hours, and cutting down on nail art tiers. My niche is now russian manicures. It's what I wanted to specialise in and it's very difficult to do that and detailed nail art. I am happy to keep the clients I currently have booking for tier 3 nails but I will be changing how nail art is booked and designs will be kept relatively simple. I will be doing no more than 4 clients a day.

​I have turned off online bookings for now while I rebuild my booking site. I plan to start these new hours in August so I will need to reschedule a lot of appointments, so please look of for reschedule emails. If you need to change the date/time of your appointment then please let me know and I can see what else I have available. Here are my new working hours that I will be starting in August.

​Tuesday- 11am - 7pm
Wednesday- 9:30am - 5:30pm
Thursday- 11am - 7pm
Friday- 9:30am - 5:30pm
Saturday- 9am - 5pm

​These hours will allow me to do 4 clients a day with enough time between appointments to have a mental reset and check my blood sugars etc in-between without feeling rushed the whole day. After all, the whole point of being self employed is so my business can fit around my life but that hasn't been the case for a long time!

Structured gel manicure + tier 2 art using hard gel🫶🏼

If your a client who thinks they have problematic nails. It may not be your nails that are the problem. The correct product matters more than you think and 'BIAB' isn't just a trend. It's a product that isn't suited for every nail type and hopping on that trend isn't doing your nails any favours.

This is why when clients select the service they're having, it's listed under structured gel manicure. It may be builder gel (BIAB) or a harder gel. Gel reinforcement is also needed on some nail types to prevent free edge lifting. This helps me create the correct structure and improve retention, even on problematic nails.

Don't forget though, that's only my part. Aftercare is just as important as correct product choice. Your nails aren't a new addition to your tool box. Treat them with care and they'll thank you for it!💅🏻🩷
