Ecopsychology: How Immersion in Nature Benefits Your Health ✨🌱
» A growing body of research points to the beneficial effects that exposure to the natural world has on health, reducing stress and promoting healing.
From a stroll through a city park to a day spent hiking in the wilderness, exposure to nature has been linked to a host of benefits, including improved attention, lower stress, better mood, reduced risk of psychiatric disorders and even upticks in empathy and cooperation.
There is mounting evidence, from dozens and dozens of researchers, that nature has benefits for both physical and psychological human wellbeing,” says Lisa Nisbet, PhD, a psychologist at Trent University in Ontario, Canada, who studies connectedness to nature.
You can boost your mood just by walking in nature, even in urban nature. And the sense of connection you have with the natural world seems to contribute to happiness even when you’re not physically immersed in nature. «

SLEEP 💤
Insomnia is by far the most common sleep specific disorder.
In fact, sleep statistics tell us that 30% of adults have reported short term sleep disorders and 10% of adults have reported chronic insomnia.
Given a large number of people suffer from Insomnia, especially in a city like London, we get almost daily requests for massage therapy to help deal with insomnia.
Firstly, specific massage modalities have the effect of relaxing the body. A Swedish massage, which is characterised by long sweeping light strokes, is ideal for relaxation. As the body relaxes, your stress levels are reduced. This has the direct effect of reducing cortisol, the stress hormone, levels in your body.
Secondly, massage aids in the secretion of serotonin, a chemical that has the effect of increasing feelings of well being and happiness. 🥰
Massage reduces cortisol by almost 30% ⬇️ and increases the secretion of serotonin and melatonin in the body. ⬆️
The secretion of serotonin increases the production of melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep. 😴
In effect, a relaxing massage increases the immediate production of melatonin which leads to better sleep quality and has the effect of eliminating insomnia.

R E S T ✨
» Healing takes time and effort. Living takes time and a lot of energy. A heart that's always listening and a mind that's always learning gets tired. And when you're tired, you need to rest.
Rest for you could look like moving slower as you clean the house or being mindful while you make a meal. It probably means being nicer to yourself. And sleep.
You need to sleep to regenerate everything your body breaks down during the day. It's how your systems can repair and rebuild themselves. And it’s nearly impossible to be well - mentally, emotionally, physically - if you aren’t sleeping well.
If you’re not resting, you’re not healing.
Taking care of yourself is one of the best ways to take care of others.
Healing is an evolving process of figuring out what works to hold you together - all the pieces of you and your life.
Give yourself the chance to stay resilient and calm. «

Invest in your physical health AND mental health ✨
» Relaxation can come in both psychological and physiological forms. Psychological relaxation refers to the reduction in stress hormone release such as cortisol.
A reduction in the level of cortisol within the blood will allow the individual to feel a reduction in anxiety, stress and depression.
Physiological relaxation refers to the increase in tissue flexibility, elasticity and pliability.
A reduction in musculoskeletal tension can allow the individual to feel a reduction in pain and increase their range of movement and flexibility.
Massage can increase the release of endorphins such as serotonin and dopamine.
Endorphins are released during times of happiness and relaxation. Low levels of endorphins are common within people managing a mental health problem due to the stress associated.
Low levels of endorphins are linked to negative thoughts, anxiety, stress and depression. Massage can stimulate an increase in the release of endorphins through stimulating the autonomic nervous system.
An increase in levels of endorphins such as serotonin and dopamine can leave the individual feeling positive, enthusiastic, and relaxed. «

GROWTH 🌾
A little article I read recently ..
» Change starts with this moment in time. Your spiritual growth into a self-confident person begins with the ability to allow and accept change. This leads to confidence as your true potential within your spirit blossoms and becomes positive change in your life.
Just like a flower bulb, you already have everything inside of you to make change happen, even if you may not feel beautiful or desirable. You feel as if you will never be the person you know you can be or even where to start. This is where you start to grow!
Consider the tulip, a graceful flower that is appreciated by everyone. How are you like that tulip? The bulb may not seem pretty but it contains everything it needs to become that graceful flower.
Sometimes we feel like we are buried in the dark with only conflicts and emptiness surrounding us. We don’t see any hope or light, nor feel the warmth of anything positive in our life. Yet we must believe in our ability to grow, blossom and transform.
Believe that out of the darkness, our growth of self and reaching up in faith will make life change for the positive. Our roots anchor us solidly in the ground, and as we grow upward towards the warming sun and the light of a new dawn, we are blossoming into a beautiful flower.
A life complete with the graceful ability to flex, as the winds of change blow but do not break us. Like the tulip, you too can be what you know you are inside. - Lady Astra «
