Are you a Derbyshire based independent/voluntary sector SEND or Therapeutic practitioner?
Would you be interested in regular networking events?
Have the opportunity to hear about the other services, share your good practice or just chat with others who are also working independently?
If you are interested let me know.
Having relocated last year I can see there are so many amazing services but it would be good to get to know you all

There are lots of amazing SEN and Therapeutic independent and voluntary services in Derby and Derbyshire. Is there a network where you can all meet up and share good practice? If not would you wish to join one?

As a parent of a neurodiverse daughter and having worked in SEN for 20 years this year I have decided to offer a quiet holiday club in the summer for kids who would prefer a quiet and low arousal club. If you are a parent or know parents whose children would prefer a club like this please can you share this with them. No more than 8 per group so numbers are limited. We are also using this to see if we can continue it term time as well
Are there any networks in Derbyshire for independent SEN or Therapeutic professionals? It seems there are so many and it would be good to link up

Even when I'm not working i am still raising awareness of Mental Health. Every year England Athletics do a Run and Talk week, we talk about mental health, take time to get to know each other a little more and just chat whilst running, so tonight I helped Belper to their first event focusing on Mental Health and included a food bank collection for Hope for Belper at the same time . It's not all about the kids, adults need support at times too

Celebrate Mental Health Week (11th May, 2026) with Play Therapy by utilising creative, child-centred activities that foster connection, safety, and self-expression.
Key approaches for home or school can include, gratitude jars, "undercover kindness" tasks, movement-based play (dancing/yoga), and creative storytelling, aimed at helping children feel heard and supported.
Focus on belonging and engagement with each other in environments where they feel safe, treat them as individuals, listen quietly, focus on their strengths, and use play to help children of all ages to express themselves and build trust with a key person

Themes is play therapy: quite often we recognise common themes in therapy sessions. Quite a lot recently i have seen are sand castles and tea parties.
Sand castles are a child's way of constructing, shaping, and manipulating sand with miniatures, and at their own pace, they are exploring complex feelings and gain a sense of control and empowerment.
Tea parties parties in play therapy also serve as a powerful, versatile tool for building rapport, fostering communication, and developing social-emotional skills in a safe, nurturing, and familiar environment
A really interesting article that explains some of the many themes recognised in children's Play in the therapy room
