Today I had my first positive aspiration, a positive aspiration occurs when blood is drawn back into the syringe after gently pulling back on the plunger. This can indicate that the needle or cannula is inside a blood vessel.

In aesthetics, recognising a positive aspiration is important as it may help identify vascular placement before injecting. If blood is seen, treatment should be stopped and the needle repositioned. Every practitioner should always aspirate.

💡 Remember: Aspiration is just one safety measure and should always be combined with excellent anatomical knowledge, careful injection techniques, and ongoing patient assessment.
