Women with irregular periods should be checked for PMOS, NHS says
Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome is underdiagnosed and inconsistently managed, according to Nice
Up to 4 million women with irregular periods should be investigated for polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, according to new NHS guidance.
PMOS, previously known as polycystic ovarian syndrome, is believed to affect up to 13% of reproductive age women, the World Health Organization estimates.
Symptoms include irregular, very short, long or absent periods, excess levels of testosterone, and ovaries with multiple small follicles.

PMOS stands for:
Polyendocrine
Metabolic
Ovarian
Syndrome
The symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment have not suddenly changed—the new name is intended to better reflect what the condition actually is.
A transition period is underway, so many doctors, websites, and medical records may still use "PCOS" alongside "PMOS" for several years.
For someone with PMOS (formerly PCOS), a good online coaching program can offer several benefits, especially because PMOS affects multiple aspects of health and often requires long-term lifestyle support.
Potential benefits
1. Personalized nutrition guidance
A coach can help you:
Build eating habits that support blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity.
Find a sustainable calorie intake if weight loss is a goal.
Avoid overly restrictive diets that are difficult to maintain.
Adapt nutrition to your preferences, schedule, and culture.
2. Exercise planning
Regular physical activity can improve insulin resistance, energy levels, and overall health. A coach can:
Create a realistic exercise plan.
Help you progress safely.
Adjust training around fatigue, injuries, or busy periods.
3. Accountability and consistency

A hormonal condition affecting 1 in 8 women around the world just got a new name in hopes of improving care. It Is now called polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome instead of polycystic o***y syndrome.
Researchers and supporters of the change said the old name, often shortened to PCOS, is inaccurate. It reduced a complex hormonal or endocrine disorder to a misunderstanding about cysts and a focus on ovaries, contributing to missed diagnoses and inadequate treatment, said the Endocrine Society, a global group of physicians and scientists.
"The thought behind that is that one, there's no cysts in the o***y, so it's very confusing," said Dr. Melanie Cree, one of the authors of the Lancet article and a pediatric endocrinology expert at the University of Colorado Anschutz. "The hope was that with a more comprehensive and accurate name change, that it would start to enable and push better care."
The name change – made after 14 years of collaboration between experts and patients – was published in The Lancet on Tuesday.
Are you welcoming the change?

LADIES FIVE REASONS YOU ARE STRUGGLING TO LOSE WEIGHT IN YOUR 40'S
Hormones shift (Perimenopause → Menopause):
Lower estrogen makes your body store more fat (especially around the belly) and can increase hunger and cravings.
Muscle decreases (Sarcopenia):
You naturally lose muscle in your 40s, which slows your metabolism—so you burn fewer calories even at rest.
Metabolism slows slightly:
You don’t need as many calories as before, but appetite doesn’t always drop to match.
Insulin sensitivity drops:
Your body is less efficient at handling carbs, making fat gain easier and energy dips more common.
Stress + sleep changes:
Higher stress and poorer sleep raise cortisol, which encourages fat storage (especially abdominal).
👉 Bottom line:
Your body becomes more efficient at storing fat and less efficient at burning it—so weight loss requires more intentional habits than it used to.
