About Gel Nails

Gel nails are hard extension nails/overlays once cured under UV. Gel nail polish is a liquid gel which is painted onto your own nail or a gel extension tip nail the same way normal nail polish is applied. Gel polishes are easier to use as they self level and wont leave or show any brush strokes or marks. Each coat of gel polish is cured under a LED lamp for 2 to 3 minutes (depending on the gel brand used). The curing process under the lamp sets the gel into a solid state, after these stages of curing the gel polish is completely hard but sticky which it is then ready to bond another layer or finishing shiny top coat.

Top coat is applied to seal the gel polish and add a beautiful shiny finish. The gel top coat also needs to be cured under the LED lamp too, this makes the nails hard, shiny and maintained for longer. Gel nails can last between 1 half weeks up to 5 weeks depending on how the individual looks after them. My own personal nails have lasted for 5 weeks in the past but I generally redo them between 2 and 3 weeks depending on the growth.

People say gel polish nails are bad for your own nails, but research have shown this is not the case, with using gel over natural nails it allows your own nails to breath not like using acrylic where your nail cant. Gel nails are as strong as acrylic but with the healthy option of looking after your own nails underneath.
