I am now qualified in cupping therapy 😊
What does cupping therapy actually do?
Cupping therapy uses suction to pull on the skin and increase blood flow to the affected area. It can help to drain excess fluids and toxins, reduce pain, loosen adhesions, and stimulate the peripheral nervous system.
I will shortly start using cupping therapy in my sessions to aid the massage.

Let’s talk massage guns!
Are massage guns beneficial and how do they help?
Yes! Massage guns can be extremely beneficial to the soft tissues of our body.
Massage guns use percussive pressure to improve circulation and blood flow to the targeted area. In doing so, this helps to decrease muscle tension, decrease muscle soreness, and promote soft tissue recovery.

Let’s talk pregnancy massage…
It is extremely common for women to have back pain during pregnancy, particularly in the early stages. It is estimated that approximately 50% experience back pain and 30% experience pelvic pain during pregnancy.
To prepare your body for labour, the ligaments in your body naturally become softer and stretch, putting stress on your lower back and pelvis. Postural changes throughout the body will additionally put stress on particular muscles, via overloading, overstretching and overuse.
Massage, stretching and strengthening can vastly benefit women in pregnancy, helping to alleviate discomfort and pain.
Benefits of pregnancy massage include:
- Reduces stress
- Relaxes muscles and stimulates soft tissues
- Improves blood flow, disperse fluid and reduce swelling
- Improves mood and sleep
Pregnancy massage is completely safe provided certain areas are avoided, for example the abdomen and legs.

Does sports massage hurt?
Contrary to belief sports massage should not be painful. At RMP we always use pain scales to ensure you’re never in pain. You should never reach anymore then a 7/10 on your scale. Discomfort is normal as massage manipulates the soft tissues in your body, therefore causing your body to not always be completely happy. But a little discomfort makes the reward worth the wait 😉

Happy Sunday!
This is definitely something I live by. I’m very much a workaholic but I’ve learnt over the years it’s important to make time for yourself and to look after your body in order to remain happy and healthy 😊

The iliotibial band is a thick piece of fascia (connective tissue) that runs along the outside of leg, from the top of the shinbone (tibia) to the hip.
Inflammation of the ITB is primarily caused by friction between the band and the lateral epicondyle of the femur (thigh bone). Friction particularly occurs when the ITB becomes too tight and starts to rub on the bursa located at the knee, producing swelling and leading to pain.
To reduce inflammation, it is best to rest and ice the area. If your ITB is too tight, certain physio exercises or massage can help.

Let’s talk Sacroiliac joint dysfunction 🩻
Sacroiliac joint dysfunction, not to be confused with sacroiliitis, is pain of the sacroiliac joint. It is typically caused by abnormal motion in the joint or malalignment.
SI joint dysfunction can be difficult to diagnose due to symptoms presenting as other types of lower back pain.
Symptoms of the condition often include:
- Pain in the lower back over the glute area
- sharp, stabbing or shooting pain that can extend down the back of the thigh
- Difficulty sitting for long periods of time and climbing stairs
- Tenderness of the PSIS
- Incorrect sacroiliac movement patterns
Patients with SI joint dysfunction should focus on strengthening their core and gluteal muscles to support the SI joint and pelvis
