Very busy summer right now! Making new soaps, creating new products, printing labels, packing gift boxes, stamping soaps with reindeers and ginger bread men… I know that you are all still in your summer mood 😄 But many of you are extremely organised and plan for Christmas gifts early. Last year, the first few seasonal orders arrived in early autumn. So this year, I’m going to be (hopefully) prepared!

Thank you to my customers! The next donation of £25 is going to The Hog Hospital .
They are based in Devon, and run by hedgehog lovers Genevieve and Toby with a lot of support from their "fan base" and local community. Like almost all hedgehog rescues, they rely entirely on donations and fundraising from the public.
Please swipe left to meet some of their patients. It is really heart warming to see the love and dedication given to these poor hoggies.
Please support them by sharing their profile with your friends. Have a look at their website to learn more about hedgehogs, or maybe you are able to support them with a donation. Most hedgehogs will confirm that a can of cat food is tasty and well received ❤️
Love.

I haven't really posted anything since Christmas... so let's start the year with some happy news:
The next donation from HedgehogSoap goes to Sompting Wildlife Rescue .
They are a small charity run by veterinary nurses and local volunteers who all love wildlife. They put a lot of dedication and time into caring for injured and orphaned wildlife. Swipe left to see photos of some of their patients. My focus is of course on the hedgehogs, but if you pay really close attention, you might spot two other patients 😜 They are too gorgeous to not give them a spot in this post.
So please have a look at their website or page, and read more about their work. Maybe you are able to help with a donation. Or you can support them by sharing their profile. The more people know about their work, the higher the chances that someone might be able to help them.
I just like to say thank you to everyone who supported my little shop. Without you these donations would not be possible ❤️.
Love.

Anyone interested in 15% discount? Maybe someone’s birthday or anniversary coming up beginning of next year, and you are still looking for a gift?
I didn’t want to put my shop in holiday mode while I’m away visiting my family. So I decided to give a “late shipping” discount instead.
Any orders placed up until the 02.01.2023 will qualify for the discount.
Just remember: All orders will be processed in the first week of January.
So please come and have a look

It’s been 2 years since I started, and I realised I’ve never shown my face 😄 So here I am!
I work full-time as a scientist for a small biotech company. A job which I really like. But in my spare time, I love making soaps.
So why the name HedgehogSoap?
I found a young hedgehog in my garden a few years ago. His sleeping place in the neighbouring school playground got disturbed by some gardeners. I called a nearby rescue, who offered lots of advice, and I started putting food and water out. The hedgehog came every night, and after a while a few more showed up. And everyone who has hedgehogs visiting knows that it’s impossible to not adore these cuties 😄 I started following rescues to learn more about their work and hedgehogs. And that’s how it all started.
I decided to sell my soaps and raise funds for local hedgehog rescues.
Over the last 2 years, I managed to raise £350 thanks to my customers.
It is a steep learning curve, and there are surprising amounts of admin work required to be able to legally sell cosmetics. But it is also lots of fun, and I have met so many amazing people.
Swipe left to see how it started with my first attempts to soap making to where I am now. There is definitely some progress 😄, and I hope that the next few years will be even better.
Thank you to everyone who supported me over the last two years!
Love. Anja from HedgehogSoap

Welcome to Wildlife Wednesdays 🦔🦔🦔
Hedgehogs are classed as vulnerable to extinction in the UK. So every hedgehog that can be saved is important. And your local hedgehog rescues are essential.
Each year, thousands of hedgehogs are rescued, treated, fostered and released by them. The vast majority is run privately, and the owners rely entirely on donations and volunteers. They don’t get any help from the government.
So how can you help, if money is tight right now?
First of all, speak to your local rescue before you start bringing anything over 😉
Share their posts and stories to raise awareness and help them to reach more people. The more people we reach the higher the chances to raise donations.
Things you might be able to donate:
⭐️ unopened cat or dog food that your pet might not like.
⭐️ old newspapers. Hedgehogs are proper little piggies when it comes to table manners. So old newspapers make great linings for cages.
⭐️ Leftover fly screens are often useful to cover cages or windows.
⭐️ Spare time: you could volunteer to help out either in the rescue or by offering shuttle services for injured hedgehogs that need to be transported to the rescue.
⭐️ If you have a sewing machine and some leftover fabric, you could sew some snuggle bags.
⭐️ Look out for raffles or market stalls organised by rescues. You might find some nice gifts for upcoming birthdays or Christmas.
⭐️ But please don’t forget: Talk to them first. Be patient, if you don’t get a reply straight away. The people running hedgehog rescues have their own families, and basically give most of their spare time to care for hedgehogs. Answering messages can take some time.

Welcome back to Sunday Soap Facts!
This is a bit of a weird post for me because I am telling you to not use soap 😜
A disclaimer first: I am not a dermatologist. If you have acne or other problems with your skin, it's always best to get specialist advice.
I know that a lot of people use soap on their faces. I sometimes do, too. And you might not have any problems. But if you have acne-prone skin, don't use soap on your face.
The pH of soap is very high compared to your skin, and it can damage the natural barrier it provides by stripping of the protective layer of oils. This can lead to moisture loss, and your skin will start to feel dry and irritated. If the barrier is damaged, bacteria can enter the skin more easily, making your acne worse.
Even soaps with activated charcoal, often advertised to help with skin impurities, won't be a good choice because the pH is still too high. You are better off using a gentle cleanser with a pH close to your skin. Avoid anything abrasive, or products containing alcohol or parfume or fragrances because all of these can irritate your skin.
I would also be careful using soap on your face (or even on your back), if you have very sensitive skin, or if you suffer from skin impurities.
So as much as I love hearing that you use handmade soap bars, don't use it on your face, if you have acne-prone skin.

After a bit of a break, I’m back. And what better way to start than saying thank you to my customers. With their help I was able to raise £25 for .
Swipe left to meet Tracy and some of her hedgehogs. She is running a self-funded rescue in Porthleven, Cornwall. Thanks to her, so many injured hedgehogs and orphaned hoglets got a second chance.
In case you didn’t know, the hedgehog population in UK is rapidly declining and they are at risk of going extinct. So people like Tracy have such a big impact in helping them survive and thrive.
Make sure to follow her to see more of her incredible work and lots of photos of gorgeous little hedgehogs. She also has lots of posts on how you can help hedgehogs 🦔🦔🦔♥️
