What an honour it was having you there to convey the hugely meaningful work of The Jacob Abraham Foundation, the critical importance of having open conversations about mental health and su***de and of course, to honour a wonderful man - Tom Hurst. There truly couldn’t have been anyone better to guide us through the evening and words cannot describe how grateful we are to you.

Your openness and vulnerability to discuss your own battles and personal experiences were courageous and inspiring. Your willingness to talk encouraged others to come forward that evening, and in the past few days since the event. You made it safe for us to open up and we haven’t had conversations that deeply honest from people we know and hadn’t previously met before, even in a crowded room full of 200 people.

As a mental health ambassador, campaigner, advocate and creator of the .co of course you would be a natural choice to present an event focused around mental health and su***de. But it was your warm and judgment-free nature, the fact that you stayed and encouraged us to come and speak to you afterwards, and the way you took the time to hear and validate our struggles and experiences with mental health that made it extra special for us all. You really went above and beyond and my goodness do you practice what you preach. It wouldn’t have been the evening it was without your complete and utter kindness and authenticity. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything.

Matt is the Founder of .co - an initiative aimed to encourage people to check-in with themselves and each other. The Checkin Co offers internationally recognised training designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provides help on a first aid basis.
