Digital ID cards and cashless: Celebrating 50 Years of Fun, Freedom & Fairness! 🎢

As we approach our 50th anniversary, Adventure Island is proud to reflect on a legacy built on joy, community, and inclusion. One of our proudest achievements remains receiving the Queen’s Award for our commitment to open and inclusive policies — values that continue to guide everything we do.

Looking ahead, we’re staying true to those principles:

✅ We are against digital ID cards for staff or job applicants

✅ We will always accept cash — because everyone deserves the freedom to choose

Our Operations Director, James Miller, explains our position clearly:

“As Operations Director, it’s important to look ahead and prepare for the future. Regarding recruitment, Digital ID cards would be wholly unnecessary. We already use birth certificates, passports, driving licences, and National Insurance numbers, which is more than enough to identify who is who. It would be a frightening waste of money that achieves nothing more than we have already.

“Cash remains vital for those who either don’t understand or simply choose not to engage with technology — and that is their right. We believe it’s important to respect that choice.

“After 50 years, we’d like to think we have a good idea of what makes a business successful — and that’s looking after the people who make us who we are: our guests and our workforce. Imposing pointless and costly policies for both is not something we are prepared to do”.

Out of thousands of applicants I actually placed for the INDUSTRY ICON AWRD in 11th place! This is a true wow moment, when this year has been a massive juggling act with my kids and their needs, whilst continuing to do what I LOVE and keeping my business afloat, I’m so grateful for this recognition.

There were some truly amazing people in this category and to think I would be recognised at all and placing is heart warming 🥰

I met so many wonderful people and everyone was there supporting each other and truly showing what it’s all about. I’m so proud to be part of this industry and be amongst such inspirational talent.

The imposter syndrome is year, this year has been the year of set backs. After an incredible 2024 Winning multiple awards followed by securing my own judging positions across 4 Beauty Awarding bodies, I have learnt more about business in the unbecoming, in the pausing, in the stuggles.

With personal battles for my children and their education, to juggling my work life balance and starting my podcast 🎙️🌵I have my clients to thank for their loyalty and their support always.

The truth is life happens and we still have to keep going and it’s in the moments that you reflect and appreciate everything you have achieved. Achievements aren’t always big awards but they are having the integrity and awareness to balance and remain authentic.

In true Fabiann style I submitted my application last min and was unapologetically honest. When the deadline was extended I considered amending it or sharing the zillion things I forgot to mention. Then thought no, keep it real, keep it real and what will be will be.

Good luck to all the Finalists I will see you on the red carpet. Now to find a dress 💃🏻 last min of course!!
