The Importance of Researching Your PMU Artist: A Real Case 🫣

A friend in the PMU community shared something with me recently, and I was honestly horrified. A poor lady went in for what she believed would be a simple microblading touch-up with a tattoo artist (NOT a PMU tech). Instead, she left with deep, bleeding lacerations, required antibiotics, and had emergency saline removal to prevent infection and long-term damage. 😔

This post is not to shame anyone. Not the client, not tattoo artists as a whole. In fact, I have deep respect for the tattoo industry, and many tattoo artists I know are close friends. They would never bash what I do, just as I would never diminish the artistry, discipline, and tradition behind tattooing. 👏🏼

But here’s the truth:
Permanent Makeup is a completely different specialty.
Different tools. Different needles. Different depth. Different techniques. Different anatomy considerations. Different sanitation standards. Different healing expectations. Different training.

Being a fantastic tattoo artist does not automatically make someone a safe or trained PMU artist. Just as being a great PMU artist does not qualify someone to tattoo a sleeve 🤷🏻‍♀️

This situation is a painful example of why researching your PMU artist is absolutely essential. This artist has ZERO certification or experience in Permanent Makeup.

Check training and certifications
Look at HEALED results, not just fresh work
Read reviews and ask questions
Make sure they specialize in PMU
Understand their sanitation protocols and pigments used

Our industry desperately needs improvement. Too many clients think “PMU is PMU” and book whoever is closest, cheapest, or available soonest.

But the moral of the story is simple:
Pay cheap, pay twice. Or sometimes… Pay more to the wrong person, and pay even more to fix it.

No client should ever suffer physical harm, infection, or emotional distress over something meant to boost their confidence. 💔 Let’s keep talking about this. Let’s keep educating. And let’s continue raising the standards of the PMU industry together.

Fresh soft, pixelated powder brows over previous microblading (not done by me) ✨

When old microblading starts to fade unevenly, a soft powder brow is the perfect way to bring the shape and colour back to life, without making the brows look heavy or overdone.

This is fresh work, but once healed the powder effect will soften by around 30–40%, allowing those old microbladed strokes to subtly peek through for the most natural, misty finish. 😮‍💨
