Lately I’ve noticed many new clients believe they have BIAB or Builder Gel… when in reality, they’re wearing Hard Gel.

This is not the client’s fault — Hard Gel is often advertised as “BIAB” in certain walk-in salons, which causes a lot of confusion.

Here’s the key difference ✨
Hard Gel cannot be soaked off with acetone. It must be fully filed off using an e-file, which requires a high level of skill. Incorrect removal can easily cause serious nail damage.

Unfortunately, I’m seeing more clients arriving with over-filed, weakened nails, deep ridges, splitting, torn nail beds, and thinning. This is often caused by poor e-file use and incorrect removal techniques.

Another common misconception is that Hard Gel and BIAB last the same — they don’t.

💗 Hard Gel
• Very hard-wearing
• No flexibility (similar to acrylic)
• More durable

💗 BIAB (Builder in a Bottle)
• Strong yet flexible
• More natural feel
• Soaks off with acetone
• Easier and safer to maintain

If you book in for a soak-off appointment but attend with Hard Gel, it’s important to know this product cannot be soaked off, so removal won’t be possible during that service.

So if your “BIAB” lasts longer at certain walk-in salons than with an independent tech, it’s likely because you weren’t receiving BIAB at all, but a harder- and often more damaging product.

Healthy nails will always come before super-hard longevity 🩷✨
