With temperatures soaring over the next couple of days, these are three Summer practices I never skip ☀️
🌿 Soaked munnaka raisins. Sweet, cooling, and deeply nourishing, they’re one of Ayurveda’s favourite foods for Summer and are especially helpful for pacifying thirst and replenishing the body after heat exposure.
🌺 A cooling infusion made with coriander, fennel, rose, and hibiscus. Summer naturally depletes us, and these herbs help to gently cool and hydrate without extinguishing the digestive fire.
🦶 A foot massage with ghee before bed. One of the simplest ways to draw excess heat downwards, calm the mind, and support restful sleep on those hot, sticky nights.
Summer can be such a beautiful season, but Ayurveda reminds us that the hotter it gets outside, the more mindful we need to be of keeping ourselves cool, nourished, and hydrated.
Simple practices, but ones I come back to every year 🌿
One of the things I’ve appreciated most whilst going down this ghee rabbit hole is that Ayurveda doesn’t seem particularly interested in blanket recommendations.
No “one tablespoon a day”.
No “x grams per kg of body weight”.
Instead, it asks us to become students of ourselves.
Because even something as celebrated as ghee isn’t beneficial in isolation. The same ghee that nourishes one person beautifully may feel heavy and difficult for someone else to process.
✨ Signs of strong digestion (agni):
• Healthy appetite and enjoyment of food
• Feeling light and energised after meals
• Daily, easy bowel movements
• Minimal bloating or gas
• Stable energy throughout the day
• A relatively clean tongue
• Clear mind and good concentration
▫️ Signs your digestion may need support:
• Feeling heavy after meals
• Bloating or excessive gas
• Poor or irregular appetite
• Reflux or indigestion
• Constipation
• Sleepiness after eating
• Thick tongue coating
• Brain fog or low energy
Perhaps the biggest lesson I’ve learnt from this series is this:
Something can be deeply nourishing and still not be appropriate in excess.
So don’t just follow trends. Don’t just listen to anyone (including me).
Learn to understand your body well enough to know when something will truly serve and nourish you. 🧈✨
