Yesterday we lost a proper local legend 🖤

Salem was our favourite three-legged visitor and if you live in Daventry, chances are you’ve met him. He made himself at home everywhere (including here at Black Rose!) wandering in like he owned the place.

We just wanted to share a few photos of him that we’ve snapped over the years.

Our hearts go out to Erin, thank you for sharing him with all of us!

A fundraiser has been started to put the funds together for a statue in tribute to the little guy, we’ll add the link below if anyone wants to donate 🖤

⚽️💚Shaun Taylor Charity Match Report 💚⚽️

Firstly, what an amazing turnout from both players and spectators. The day began with a beautifully observed minute of silence in memory of Shaun Taylor – a touching moment that set the tone for the game.

Black Rose started brightly, showing real quality in the final third, and it wasn’t long before Omar Powell finished off a fine move to put them 1-0 up.

Shaun’s Spanners responded well, and after a cagey spell, Finn Hourigan capitalised on a long ball and a defensive slip to level the game at 1-1.

The game tightened up from there, with Shaun’s Spanners doing well to keep Black Rose’s creative front four quiet. But just before the break, Euan Peasland found half a yard of space inside the box and rifled his shot into the roof of the net to restore Black Rose’s lead at 2-1.

The second half began with Black Rose in control once again. Peasland broke through on goal before being fouled from behind, winning a penalty which he confidently converted to make it 3-1.

With around 20 minutes left, Peasland was brought down in similar fashion, but instead of going for his hat-trick, he generously handed the penalty duties to Jayden Buckmaster. Despite carrying a few knocks, Buckmaster smashed it into the top right corner to extend the lead to 4-1.

Black Rose then made a series of substitutions as cramp and knocks started to take their toll. This gave Shaun’s Spanners the opportunity to apply late pressure, and with five minutes remaining, they pulled one back through Finn Hourigan, who tapped home from close range after a corner. Moments later, Josh Reeve added another with a sharp finish from the edge of the box, making it 4-3 and setting up a nervy finale.

With what felt like an eternity of added time – and maybe one or two “extra” players sneaking on for Shaun’s Spanners 😅 – Black Rose managed the final minutes smartly, keeping the ball in the corner to see out the win.

The match ended with handshakes all round and a brilliant group photo – a fitting end to a spirited and emotional day.

While the final fundraising total is still being counted, it looks like the Taylor family will once again be surpassing another incredible milestone this year.

We had a visit from Lee and Harry today, proudly showing off the runner-up trophy that Daventry Town Saxons U14’s earned at their tournament last weekend! ⚽️👏

The team had a brilliant run and only lost one game — right at the last minute — but still came away with a well-deserved trophy for their efforts. A fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work, determination, and team spirit shown by the whole squad!

Well done to all the lads, coaches, and supporters — the Saxons continue to make Daventry proud! 💪🙌
