September 10 marks World Su***de Prevention Day, something very close to my heart ❤️

Su***de is a major public health problem with far-reaching social, emotional and economic consequences. It is estimated that there are currently more than 700 000 su***des per year worldwide, and we know that each su***de profoundly affects many more people.

“Creating Hope Through Action” is the triennial theme for the World Su***de Prevention Day from 2021-2023. This theme serves as a powerful call to action and reminder that there is an alternative to su***de and that through our actions we can encourage hope and strengthen prevention.

By creating hope through action, we can signal to people experiencing suicidal thoughts that there is hope and that we care and want to support them. It also suggests that our actions, no matter how big or small, may provide hope to those who are struggling.

Lastly, it serves as a reminder that su***de prevention is a public health priority and urgent action is required to make sure su***de mortality rates are reduced. WHO will continue to work with its partners to support countries to take concrete measures in this direction. With thanks to WHO.

I lost my best friend to su***de, no matter where I am in the world, she will always be with me, dancing away to Titanium. Forever in my heart, my angel above 😇 ***depreventionday 🇨🇷

To aspirate or not to aspirate, that is the question?

Let’s start with, what is aspirating?

Aspirating is the process of pulling back on the plunger for 10 seconds, whilst the needle or cannula is stationary where filler is to be placed. This ensures the needle is not in a blood vessel and vulnerable to blockage by the subsequently injected filler, thus minimising the risk of vascular complications.

Does every practitioner aspirate?

No, not every practitioner will aspirate, as this is not a mandatory technique in injecting dermal filler. That said, if you inject dermal filler often enough, you are likely to encounter some type of vascular complication at some point.

In a small survey published in 2017, 65% of practitioners confirmed they aspirated every time. You can view the article here:https://www.consultingroom.com/Uploads/Feature_Article/FeatureApr2017-Aspiration.pdf

The golden question, do I aspirate?

Absolutely. The safety of my clients is paramount, being a safe injector is and will always be, my top priority. Chose your practitioner wisely.

Let’s talk Migration… What is it?

Filler migration is one of the few common side effects of aesthetic injectables. It occurs when the dermal filler spreads or migrates to another region separate from the area in which the injection was placed.

Though filler migration is most often associated with lip fillers, It could occur in any area where facial filler is applied, including jawline and cheek

What can I do if my lip filler has migrated?

Don’t be alarmed…..If you think your filler has migrated, it can be fixed. The brilliance of advanced fillers nowadays is that it is semi-permanent, which means they will decompose naturally and be metabolised by your body over time. Alternatively, speak to your practitioner about dissolving your lips and starting a fresh.
