Classic lash course

Don’t buy into cheap online courses! Lashes are difficult to learn and you need the best guidance possible.

I first learnt lashes around 10 years ago and I still take at least 2 courses a year, as well as attending all the conferences I can.
I’ve spent aloooot of money, regularly travel to America for conferences and I’m learning about lashes every single day.

If you do a cheap, ill equipped lash course you will be forever chasing your tail. I don’t believe any great trainers will sell their lash course cheap.

This course will set you up to succeed, learning from all the lessons I’ve made from the mistakes I made.

You will learn all the valuable basics to not only make you skilled at your job but also turn it in to a profitable profession.

Location - durham city centre uk
Price £500
Length 2 days plus home study and case studies
Kit included - no
Experience needed - no
Maximum of 5 students
Next course date 27th 28th of February

Why it’s important to choose the right place for your nails.

I’ve been dealing with a lot of nails that are recovering from non-standard (NSS) nail bars. So I wanted to explain this as an educator.

I had both of these sets of nails in the salon this week, so thought it was the perfect time to talk about it.

The set by us was removal of gel extensions after 4 weeks

The set not by us was nails applied and removed in a NSS

What do I mean by non-standard? ⚠️

🚩They don’t have you fill out a consultation or check if you have any medical conditions

🚩There is often a lot of people waiting and you can be passed around various nail techs

🚩 Cash only, cash only is not the issue but often these salons will only take cash ..

🚩Nails are often sore after and no care is shown to your nails

🚩They don’t have insurance

Why are these salons an issue?
When inspected some nail bars have found to be using none approved chemicals. All nail extensions end result is an acrylic (a plastic) it’s the chemicals that count.

There are two types of monomer liquid that are used in acrylic nail application- MMA (methyl Methacrylate) and EMA (Ethyl Methacrylate)

MMA is banned by the FDA
As it’s a lot cheaper and very strong it’s still a popular choice with some salons.

These particular acrylics are found in dental care and orthopaedics because of their strength and will literally rip your nail off if caught.

The nail beds are over drilled to create more of a rough surface for the acrylic to embed into, basically becoming part of the nail plate.

Yes your nails will be very strong, they may look great, cost you less and you dont need an appointment…. Win win!

But is it?
Believe it or not I’ve heard of many cases of serious infection, resulting in permanent damage and in some cases the loss of a finger. At the very least you will always have to fully grow your nail out after every set.

Still not convinced..
Have a quick google about these salons and you will often see an association with poorly treated staff, low wages, money laundering and human trafficking.

This is not all of these salons but it’s far to many

This happened last week 😊 and I realised I don’t use this page enough.
In the new year I will be reducing my hours in the salon and concentrating mostly on education and how I can help within the industry.

I’m so proud to be a finalist for this award and it’s a wake up that I need to throw myself back in to doing what I love and that’s helping other people in the industry.

I’m currently working on my diary, new courses, workshops and some exciting other projects.
I’m not going to be offering what everyone else is, I’m going to be doing what I think the courses should be like and supporting people through their careers and making the centre your go to.

Lots more information to come but I will wait until the new year when everyone isn’t crazy busy!

What a weekend!
We headed to Windsor on Sunday morning, enjoyed a few cheeky cocktails and then headed to the BABTAC awards. Such a beautiful event and we are very lucky to have been invited.

And I came a way with lash expert of the year 😊😊😊😊

Are you really qualified?

Ask pretty much anyone in the beauty industry and they will tell you they are qualified in whatever treatment they offer, but are you?

In many cases no, that’s because a lot of people are choosing to do accredited courses now rather than the standard college route. If you have this means you are not qualified.. don’t panic! In many cases people who do this route are equally trained and experienced, but it can create problems. You are only qualified if the course was via a ofqual training provider and you have the ofqual stamp on your certificate, otherwise you are simply accredited.

The issue with this is, it’s down to the training provider to set the training outcomes and in some cases the national occupation standards are not met. This is becoming worse and worse as training is watered down.
With an ofqual qualification your training provider is accountable to an awarding body and has to prove the learning outcomes have been met in accordance with national occupational standards.

When do you need a qualification?
If you plan on teaching qualifications, you will need a qualification in the subject you are teaching.
If you want to work abroad a qualification has more standing, then a certificate of accreditation.
Having a qualification limits the issues you may have with insurance and ensures you can get insurance with more trustworthy insurance companies.
Another consideration is many employers will only employ those that have qualifications, due to the above reasons.

In a nutshell from a professional and logistical point of view a qualification is best to have.

But that means going back to college? Actually, no it doesn’t, you can have your prior experience taken into account and simply have to be assessed and do the required assessments by a qualified (ofqual) assessor.

I became a registered VTCT centre for this reason so I could help people turn this around without spending thousands and having to go back into education to achieve it.
My first aim is to tackle this with the lash industry as this has been heavily overlooked from a qualification perspective. I will also be offering this with many of the individual units with vtct.

If you would like more information, please drop me a message  I’m looking at travelling to a few locations if there are group bookings

Finally starting to recover 😳

Thank you for everyone’s patience over the last week, it was so crazy I’ve had little free time to deal with anything else. It feels like we crammed a month into a week 😴

Although it may look like we were on our jollies 🍹 we were there to work 💪🏻

We were attending the skin games in Florida, with both myself and lexi competing in lashes, lexi in waxing and I was kindly asked to judge the make up.

Lashes were pre entered and we both placed 🙌🏻 with me loosing a bulk of points before even looking at the lashes 😩🙄 (you live and learn😬)

Waxing was live, with lots of people competing. Lexi held her own in what is a tough environment and stepping very much out of her comfort zone.

Judging was so much fun but way harder work then I expected 😂

But what we were mostly there for was to promote my new business, which will be going live in the next few weeks. I will be sharing lots of info on this soon 😊 https://www.facebook.com/TheHairandbeautydirectory/

We didn’t sleep very much, made the most of every second of our days off in Orlando and made some amazing friends ❤️
