GET YOUR MOLES CHECKED, FOLKS! It’s the end of Melanoma Awareness Month and I’m a particularly moley person. Whilst I’m a sun-protection militant now, I haven’t always been and I’ve been badly sunburned at least 3 times in my life, meaning there’s a higher risk of skin cancer. I decided to team up with the gorgeous Elena at @irresistible_skin_clinic in Eastbourne, and finally see what a full body mole check entails. The process took about 40 minutes and I was literally checked top to toe. Then double checked with a magnifying screen then TRIPLE checked (but only unusual or potentially dodgy lesions) using a dermascope. This particular service includes up to 3 moles (if you have three that are suspect) being sent to @mapmymole, where their expert dermatologists will review and send a full report. I got mine within 15 minutes of leaving the clinic! Luckily my moles were all benign (PHEW) but a couple had gotten bigger / darker, so we sent them off for consultant review, which was the right thing to do. Upshot is, it’s an hour of your life (tops) for a real peace of mind. If you are a generally moley person or you have a mole you’re worried about, PLEASE go and get checked out. Look out for; New moles or freckles Darkening or shape change in existing moles Crusting, itching, bleeding A spot or patch that doesn’t seem to heal Irregular margins or variations in colour New moles on soles of feet, palms of hands or anywhere not sun exposed And for GAWD’S SAKE, wear sunscreen!
