One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is “My skin is oily, so it can’t be dehydrated”

The truth is, oily skin and dehydrated skin are two completely different things.

Dehydrated skin lacks water, not oil. When your skin doesn’t have enough hydration, it can actually produce more oil in an attempt to protect itself. That’s why you might notice excess shine, congestion or breakouts even though your skin still feels tight after cleansing.

Instead of trying to strip the oil away, the focus should be on restoring hydration and supporting the skin barrier. Once your skin is balanced, you’ll often notice it becomes calmer, healthier and less oily over time.

This is something I discussed with a client in clinic today and it’s a great reminder that understanding your skin is just as important as treating it.
