One of the things we hear surprisingly often is, “I wish I’d booked sooner.”
Sometimes people are hoping the problem will settle on its own. Sometimes life gets in the way. And sometimes they’ve simply got used to living with it.
If something has been bothering you for a while, don’t just assume you have to live with it. Speaking to the right practitioner can help you understand your options and whether massage, osteopathy or acupuncture may be appropriate for you.
Whether you choose Natural Balance Therapies or another trusted practitioner, don’t feel you have to struggle on.

Six months today I’ll be 60 😱
That milestone has made me think a lot about ageing and what it means to age well.
For me, it isn’t about looking younger. It’s about staying active, staying independent and continuing to do the things I enjoy for as long as possible.
We know that regular movement and exercise are some of the best things we can do for our long-term health. The problem is that aches and pains often get in the way.
That’s one of the reasons I believe so strongly in treatments such as massage, osteopathy and acupuncture. Not because they stop ageing, but because they can help people stay active and keep doing the things they love.
What does ageing well mean to you?

Recently, I treated a client in her early 30s who had been struggling with frequent migraines and tension headaches, alongside constant tightness in her shoulders and occasional jaw clenching.
Her headaches had gradually become a weekly occurrence — sometimes every few days — and were starting to affect her energy, focus and overall quality of life. Like many people I see, she felt as though her body had become stuck holding stress.
During our consultation, a few different pieces of the puzzle started to come together, including muscular tightness, hormonal influences and nervous system overload. Treatment focused on helping calm the nervous system and ease tension through the head, neck and shoulders.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, this kind of presentation can sometimes reflect an imbalance connected to the Wood element, which is commonly associated with emotional pressure and feeling overstretched. I sometimes describe it as being a bit like a pressure valve that hasn’t had a chance to release properly — eventually the body starts showing signs that it’s struggling to regulate and settle itself.
On examination, I also noticed some redness at the edges of the tongue, which in TCM can sometimes be a sign that the body is feeling overstimulated or “running hot” over a longer period.
Alongside acupuncture, I used cupping to help release deeper fascial tightness through the upper back and neck.
After treatment, she reported fewer migraines, less frequent tension headaches, and a noticeable reduction in tightness through her neck, shoulders and jaw.
Every person is different of course, but many people seek acupuncture to support headaches, jaw tension and the physical effects of feeling overwhelmed — especially when symptoms have started to become persistent.
If you’re curious about whether acupuncture might be suitable for you, I also offer free informal chat appointments, which can be booked via Fresha. https://f.mtr.cool/zekyrsyuie

Why does pregnancy suddenly make your back hurt?
It’s not just the bump.
One of the earliest changes is hormonal. A hormone called relaxin increases, helping the body adapt—but also making joints a bit less stable.
Add changes in posture and the way the body carries weight, and it’s no surprise the lower back, hips and shoulders often start to complain. Sometimes much earlier than expected.
Massage can help ease some of that tension and support the body as it changes—but it needs to be done at the right time and in the right way.
For clarity:
• We’re unable to treat during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy due to insurance requirements
• From 16 weeks onwards, Pregnancy Massage can be booked with a specifically trained therapist
Treatment is carried out in a supported position and focuses on the areas that tend to take the most strain.
In reality, many expectant mothers just put up with those aches and pains rather than booking something for themselves.
That’s often where partners, friends or family come in. A gift card is a simple way to step in and help ease some of that discomfort.
If you’re trying to book and nothing works, it’s always worth checking again a couple of days beforehand—availability often opens up.
