Breaking my Facebook hiatus to ask a favour!
On 25th June, my fit and healthy 35 year old husband, Rob, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at home in the early hours of the morning.

Luckily, East Midlands Ambulance service arrived at our house within minutes and took him to Kings Mill Hospital, where he was put into an induced coma and cared for by A&E staff, the Critical Care Team and then by the Cardiac Ward.

Rob underwent tests and was then transferred to the Acute Cardiac Unit at City Hospital. After further tests, Rob underwent surgery to fit him with an ICD on 22nd July.

And after a month in hospital, Rob finally came home to recover ♥️

I am running the Brighton Marathon in April 2025 to raise money for the East Midlands Ambulance Service, Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals Charity. I am hoping to donate £2000 for each charity, £6000 in total.

This is the least I can do to say thank you to them all. From those came to my rescue in the first few minutes, who looked after our son in the early hours of that morning in A&E, cared for Rob over the many weeks in hospital and those who eventually fitted him with a device that will give him the confidence to live life to the fullest.

They have all played a part in not only saving my husband’s life but helping save our family.

With only 5 weddings to go, I thought it right to share some of my happiest memories and favourite looks from over my (nearly) decade in the wedding industry.

This shoot organised by my bestie was one of the first post lockdown, with fabulous shooting my fave .e.xk on a drizzly morning in Nottingham. I created a graphic eye while beaut smashed a relaxed updo. This group of gals are my fave and I will forever remember the giggles we had this day🖤

Prepping for a jam packed wedding weekend! How are you spending your bank holiday?

If you know me, you’ll be aware that I’m a huge believer in the universe and what it has in store for us. I am an advocate for change. In fact, I recorded podcast episodes exploring the identities we create and ultimately change over our lifetimes….change is good!

I am truly thankful to have created makeup looks for hundreds of brides and a thousand faces over the past 9 years in the industry. I loved being part of your days, mornings and evenings, helping you feel unreservedly you whatever the occasion.

The time has come, however, for a change and at the end of September I will be washing my brushes for the very last time.

Why, I hear you ask? So many factors have influenced my decision, but the biggest one by far is this…..
My best mate is 8 in September and he’s honestly the coolest guy I know. I never get to spend the weekends or summer with him. I reckon I have 6, maybe 7 summers that he wants to spend with me before I become REALLY uncool. So I’m going to make every moment of these years where he’s still happy to hang out with me!

The last 9 years have been one heck of a journey, I would be lying if I said I loved every second, but I have loved SO many moments and I’m very grateful for the lessons. I have made so many wonderful friends along the way, both in clients and peers. Thank you to every single one of you for making the journey memorable.

I’m super excited for what the future has in store for me….. but for now….let’s absolutely smash the next 4 months and make it the last, and best Ruby J wedding season 🖤
