Is your aesthetic clinic regulated?

Not all aesthetic clinics in Scotland are regulated - and that should matter to you.

At Esthetique (Inverness) Ltd, we have been fully registered with Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) since 2017, the national regulator responsible for ensuring the highest standards in:

✔️Medical Oversight
✔️Infection Control
✔️Patient Safety

Unregulated clinics do not undergo inspections. That means no accountability, no clinical standards, and no guarantee of safety.

No inspection = no protection.

How can you check if a clinic is HIS regulated? Visit the official HIS website and search the clinic name here:

The British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM) has expressed serious concerns following a BBC report about the seizure of unlicensed dermal fillers and suspected illegally traded botulinum toxin from a Glasgow warehouse. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) carried out the raid, uncovering nearly 400 non-compliant dermal fillers, 320 non-compliant needles/cannulas, and over 180 vials of unlicensed botulinum toxin. BCAM highlights the risks posed by the lack of regulation in the UK, where individuals do not need medical training to offer aesthetic treatments, urging patients to thoroughly research and choose qualified practitioners.

BCAM President Dr. Catherine Fairris commended the MHRA for its successful operation but stressed that the unregulated nature of the industry continues to put the public at risk from counterfeit injectable products. These products can cause severe complications, including infections and granulomas. Dr. Fairris called for the government to collaborate with key stakeholders to implement regulations that prioritize patient safety.

Dr. Nestor Demosthenous, a BCAM Trustee based in Edinburgh, echoed these concerns, noting that non-medical professionals often use unlicensed products due to their inability to access licensed ones. This lack of proper training and use of unsafe products leads to significant risks such as tissue necrosis, sepsis, paralysis, and even death. BCAM urges the government to act swiftly to prevent further public harm and ensure treatments are administered by adequately trained medical professionals.
