Feasibility Sketches

Sketch concepts for a contemporary, vaulted single storey extension to a small crofting cottage in the heart of the Cairngorms, Moray.

One option comes in the form of a perpendicular gable-to-gable form with a structural glazed wall and sedum roof link to connect the two forms.

The other option is to marry in with the existing scale and form of the cottage via a parallel gable-to-gable extension, with the glazed link continued through.

Food for thought for our clients as we look to progress with scheme design drawings prior to Planning.

Split Level Dwelling

Our recently completed near dwellinghouse commission near Tornaveen, Upper Deeside.

This split-level home responds to the natural contours of the site, creating a series of connected spaces that step gently through the landscape.

Design combines simple pitched volumes, natural timber cladding, contemporary standing seam and timber screening creating to glazed gable areas.

We’re delighted to see this project fitting into its surroundings, with carefully framed views out to the countryside.

Final Touches

Delighted to see our Drumoak extension commission coming into the final stages before completion.

Birch ply stair treads and walls, with shadow gap abutments.

Great to see the lindab galvanised rainwater goods installed, tying in the completed elevation. Looking sharp up against the larch and terracotta corrugated roof.

Fantastic craftsmanship throughout from Kyle Sutherland Joinery Ltd

7 The Carnousie Meadows

A restraint and contemporary material palette for our recently completed dwellinghouse with Annie Kenyon Developments, located in the Deveron Valley at Carnousie.

7 The Carnousie Meadows is now for sale and available for viewings.

This significant milestone is the second of 8 new builds, which will form Phase 1 of the development.

In turn, this enabling development (along with the following Phase 2), will support the investment required to restore and convert the glorious, ruinous, grade B listed steading on site, Carnousie Steading.

For more information on this speculative build, the historic importance of Mains of Carnousie Steading, and the remaining available plots, go to the https://www.akenyondevelopments.com/developments/mains-of-carnousie/house-type-2-1-1.

Site Analysis & Options

Site analysis and options for a new extension commission to a former croft cottage within the Cairngorms, around Glenlivet Estate.

These sketches convey site observations, constraints, features and opportunities to enhance the cottage, taking advantage of generous views from the elevated site, down the valley and out to Cairn Muldonich.

Some considered options for a perpendicular gable-to-gable, a replicated side by side roof footprint, along with a cranked/angled form.

Insch Farmhouse

Works are well underway at our Farmhouse extension and renovation project on the outskirts of Insch.

The core brief was simple: reconfigure the house to create a new functional entrance and open Kitchen, Dining & Living space filled with natural light and views beyond to Bennachie.

Most of the work currently is centred round the front elevation which sees the completion of the larch cladding and natural stone base course/sill, resulting in a warm, modern yet simplistic covered Entrance to the property.

Great work by Main Contractor, Stewart Wilson Joinery Ltd.

Building Warrant Approved

We’re delighted to have gained building warrant approval for a replacement dwellinghouse in the heart of the Cairngorms, in Boat of Garten.

An efficient, A rated dwelling with bio-diverse sedum roofs, larch cladding and exposed Douglas Fir rafters throughout. These honest, organic materials aim to create warmth and natural texture, transitioning externally and carrying through into the internal space.

It’s great to have these details considered and developed as we head into the next stages of work. We’re excited to see this commission progress.
