Nasty niggling dull pain in base of the foot and heel that just won’t go away?

Plantar fasciitis is a nasty painful debilitating condition in the band of tissue (plantar fascia - PF) that connects the heel bone to the base of the toes. It supports the arch of the foot and is the “shock absorber” taking so much load in the foot.

The root cause of PF is that the surrounding musculature and band of connective tissue are not able to withstand the load that is being placed upon it. Micro tears and trauma of the tissue can cause a nasty pain on and off for what seems like a lifetime, if left untreated. We find ourselves having to reduce our activities and struggle to fulfill day to day movement without struggling with pain and discomfort.

We see a rise in PF as a result of wearing flip flops and lesser cushioned / stability footwear.

Hagley Sports Massage offers a comprehensive treatment plan, including soft tissue remedial massage, ankle mobilisation in the early stages of treatment and rehab, targeting pain management. Focus will be on mobility of the ankle joint as well as joints of the foot including the big toe. A strengthening programme will progressively focus on the calf muscles, small intrinsic muscles of the foot and posterior tibialis.

Don’t delay your suffering any longer. Call Hagley Sports Massage today to discuss your condition and book an appointment on 07788 584553.

Weak Muscles and imbalances affecting your joints?

Muscular imbalances affect the body’s natural movement, causing stress, strain and misalignment at joints. Weak or tight muscles can cause disruption, pulling the joint out of its natural position leading to increased pain and discomfort, reduced range of movement and lead to long term joint degeneration.

How though?
1. The “muscular team work” falls apart with tight or weak muscles surrounding the joint pulling on the joint, compromising its stability and movement.
2. The body will compensate recruiting new muscles to enable movement at the joint. This leads to new “compensatory issues”.
3. Increased pressure on joint and nerves from misalignment.
4. Wear and tear of cartilage from joint shifting position from dominant / weak muscle support.

Soft tissue remedial therapy, sports massage - from assessment to implementing an individual treatment plan. Restore your body back to moving efficiently , through either day to day movement or in your sporting activities. Call

ARE YOUR MUSCLES REALLY TIGHT… OR ARE THEY DEHYDRATED? ☀️💧

During hot weather, many people notice their muscles feeling tighter than usual, as a result of excessive sweating, losing water and electrolytes. If these aren’t replaced, recovery, performance and tissue health can all suffer.

Dehydration can cause muscles and connective tissues to function less efficiently, leaving them feeling:

❌ Tight, stiff, heavy
❌ Fatigued
❌ More prone to cramping

Many people respond by stretching more, but if dehydration is the underlying issue, stretching alone won’t solve the problem.

Some simple adjustments can help:
💧 Drink regularly throughout the day
🧂 Replace electrolytes when sweating heavily
🥗 Eat well to support recovery
😴 Prioritise quality sleep
🏃 Modify training intensity during extreme heat
(Whilst they sound obvious, they are still overlooked!)

Soft Tissue Therapy can identify areas of tension, overload and compensation, helping to improve tissue mobility, circulation and recovery. Combined with good hydration and recovery habits, it can help keep your body moving and performing at its best.

Call Hagley Sports Massage on 07788 584553 to book your appointment today.

Please stay hydrated, safe and healthy.

Are you experiencing restricted arm and shoulder movement? Normal day to day shoulder / arm movements reduced range of movement or loss of strength and power?

Muscles are critical to efficient movement and functionality of the shoulder….are yours?

Muscles play a vital role in the functioning of the shoulder, but why?

* barely any bony connection to the rest of the skeleton
* no socket at the shoulder
* ability and multi direction and multi plane opportunities of the arm

It is a misconception that there is a shoulder joint, or ball and socket as referenced. The ball or head of the arm bone (humerus) moves against the flat surface of the glenoid fossa, meaning there is actually very little connection of the shoulder to the rest by of the skeleton. Connection is at the collar bone.

A healthy functioning shoulder should allow the arm to move in many multi directions and planes. Muscles and the role they play in the function of the shoulder and arm are critical - dysfunctions need addressing soonest.

Do you suffer with muscle cramping?

Cramping can be linked to muscle fatigue, dehydration, stress, overload, poor circulation, repetitive movement or tight overworked muscles.

When a muscle cramps, it contracts involuntarily causing pain, tightness and restricted movement, impacting performance, sleep and everyday activities. Recurrent cramping can also place extra strain on joints and surrounding muscles.

Soft tissue therapy can help by reducing muscular tension, improving circulation, restoring tissue mobility and improving flexibility and muscle function. Treatment also helps identify muscular imbalances, trigger points and overuse patterns contributing to recurrent cramps.

Don’t ignore what your body is trying to tell you — prevention and maintenance are key to keeping the body moving well and reducing injury risk. Call Hagley Sports Massage on 07788 584553 to book an appointment today.

It’s hot hot hot ☀️☀️☀️ …Stay hydrated and top up your electrolytes helping you and your body to function properly.💧🍋🍈🍶

Electrolytes are the minerals ( e.g. sodium and potassium) responsible for directing water to areas of the body that need it the most, maintaining and regulating optimal fluid levels in cells.

Excessive sweating can deplete the electrolytes in our body, replenishing with water alone may not be enough to top them up. Low electrolyte levels can impair bodily functions i.e. muscular contractions, acid balance, fluid regulation …… cramping is a common issue when hydration / electrolyte levels run low.

Your heart is a muscle so electrolytes even help regulate your heart ❤️.

Citrus fruits, I.e. lemons and limes have a lot of electrolyte properties, so does coconut water.

Make your own electrolyte water drink as below:
Makes two 8 fl. Oz servings.
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup line juice
1 tablespoon honey
1 1/2 cups coconut water
2 cups cold water

Keep safe, hydrated and healthy.
