π Why Use Olive Oil Before Your Ear Wax Removal Appointment? π
Using olive oil drops for a few days before your ear wax removal appointment can make a big difference!
β
Softens hard ear wax
β
Makes wax easier and more comfortable to remove
β
Can reduce the amount of treatment time needed
β
Helps improve the effectiveness of microsuction or irrigation procedures
For best results, apply a few drops of olive oil into the affected ear once or twice a day for 3β5 days before your appointment (unless you have been advised otherwise by a healthcare professional).
If you're experiencing blocked ears, reduced hearing, discomfort, or ringing in the ears, professional ear wax removal may help.

π Whatβs the difference between Water Irrigation and Microsuction for Ear Wax Removal? π
Many people are unsure which method is best for removing ear wax, so hereβs a simple guide:
π§ Water Irrigation This method uses a gentle flow of warm water to flush wax out of the ear canal. It can be very effective for softer wax and is a common treatment option.
π Microsuction Microsuction uses a small medical suction device to carefully remove wax under direct vision. It is a clean, precise method and is often preferred for people with sensitive ears, perforated eardrums, hearing aids, tinnitus, or a history of ear infections.
Both methods can safely and effectively remove troublesome ear wax when carried out professionally, and the best option depends on your ears and the type of wax present.

π Why Ear Irrigation Isnβt Suitable for Everyone β and What the Alternatives Are
Ear irrigation (sometimes called ear syringing) has been used for many years to remove ear wax using water. While it can work for some people, it isnβt the safest or best option for everyone.
β οΈ Why ear irrigation may not be suitable
Ear irrigation may not be recommended if you: β’ Have had ear surgery in the past
β’ Have a perforated or previously perforated eardrum
β’ Suffer from frequent ear infections
β’ Experience dizziness or balance problems
β’ Have very hard or impacted wax
Using water can sometimes push wax further in, cause discomfort, increase the risk of infection, or in rare cases damage the eardrum.
β
Safer alternatives to ear irrigation
The good news is there are gentler, more controlled options available:
πΉ Microsuction
This is considered the gold standard for ear wax removal. A small suction device is used under direct vision, making it: β’ Safe and precise
β’ Quick and effective
β’ Suitable for most people
β’ No water involved
πΉ Manual removal
Using specialist instruments and a camera, wax is carefully removed under direct vision. This is ideal for certain ear shapes or wax types.
π‘ The most important step
A proper ear assessment first. Everyoneβs ears are different, so the safest method depends on your individual ear health.
If youβre unsure which option is right for you, always seek advice from a trained professional rather than trying home remedies or cotton buds.
Your ears deserve gentle, expert care π
