On our recent holiday, SPF 50 was non-negotiable.
It reached 34°C on the hottest days, and in that kind of heat I don’t believe in lying out in the midday sun. Those hours were for shopping, lunch or finding some shade.
If you enjoy sunbathing, the safest approach is to make the most of the gentler sun:
☀️ 8am–10am
☀️ Around 6pm onwards
Even then, I found the sun in Spain was still incredibly strong until around 8pm, so sunscreen was reapplied regularly.
A tan fades. Sun damage doesn’t.
