🏊‍♀️ From the Pool to the Clinic – A Swimmer's Perspective 🏊‍♀️

As a former competitive swimmer, Jake understands the demands that training places on your body. Hours in the pool, thousands of strokes, and repetitive movements can all lead to aches, tightness, and overuse injuries.

Whether you swim competitively, train for fitness, or simply enjoy being in the water, sports massage can help support recovery and keep you performing at your best.

Struggling with general muscle fatigue? Swimming challenges the whole body, and recovery is just as important as training.

Regular sports massage can:

• Reduce muscle soreness.
• Improve recovery between sessions.
• Help you maintain flexibility and movement.
• Keep you training consistently.

As a former competitive swimmer, Jake knows first-hand what the sport demands. His experience, combined with his sports therapy knowledge, means he understands the common problems swimmers face and how to help manage them.

If you're struggling with niggles, tight muscles or recurring aches, book in and keep yourself swimming comfortably for longer.

👌🏼 Looking beneath the surface 👇🏼

One of the best parts of having student physiotherapists with us is being able to introduce them to the technologies and clinical reasoning shaping modern MSK practice.

Here, Terry is demonstrating Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) as part of a teaching session. Used appropriately, POCUS can complement a thorough history and physical examination, helping clinicians better understand anatomy, movement and tissue presentation.

Our aim isn't just to teach techniques, it's to help students develop the clinical reasoning skills that underpin safe, evidence-informed practice. Investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals benefits everyone, especially future patients.

🙌 Jake is almost back! 🙌

Many of you have been asking where Jake has disappeared to...

Following hand surgery, Jake has been focusing on what he encourages all of his clients to do, taking rehabilitation seriously and giving his body the time it needs to recover.

We're pleased to say his rehab has gone well, and he's now preparing for his return to the clinic.
Jake will be back from mid-July, and we're looking forward to welcoming him back to the team.

Thank you to everyone who has wished him well and for your patience while he's been away. We know he's missed seeing you all and can't wait to get back to doing what he loves.

🎾 We thought we’d have a quiet weekend…🎾

When we’re not at the clinic fixing King’s Lynn, we occasionally nip off for a bit of recreational tennis…

…at Wimbledon. 😏

Jane’s still convinced she’d have made Centre Court if physiotherapy hadn’t got in the way, while Terry insists he’s got a great backhand… he doesn’t even know what that is. 😂

Don’t worry though, we’ll be back in clinic soon enough, trading tennis rackets for treatment tables, helping you move better, recover from injury, and get back to doing what you love.

Disclaimer: We were tv spectators... not wildcards. Maybe next year. 🎾📺😂

📚 Learning Beyond the Textbook 📚

Today it was Georgia's turn on the Reformer.

As one of our MSc Physiotherapy students, she's discovering that rehabilitation isn't just about knowing the exercises, it's about understanding why we choose them, when to progress them, and how to adapt them to the person in front of you.

The Reformer is a fantastic teaching tool because every movement provides feedback. Change the spring tension, body position, range of movement or tempo, and suddenly the demands on strength, stability, coordination and motor control are completely different.

By experiencing the exercises herself, Georgia isn't just learning to prescribe rehabilitation, she's learning what it actually feels like to be the patient. That first-hand experience helps develop clinical reasoning, better cueing, greater empathy, and more confident decision-making.

One of the things I enjoy most about supervising student physiotherapists is helping bridge the gap between university learning and real clinical practice. Every session is an opportunity to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and build the confidence needed to become a safe, effective clinician.

Another great session, with plenty of learning, laughter and clinical discussions along the way.

As temperatures rise during a heatwave, many people notice they feel more tired, stiff, achy, or even dizzy, but few realise just how much dehydration can affect the body, muscles, and joints.

At FYB, we often see an increase in muscle tightness, cramping, headaches, fatigue, and flare-ups of joint pain during hotter weather. Whether you’re training hard, working outdoors, or simply trying to stay active, hydration plays a huge role in how your body moves and recovers.

🐾 Patient of the Day: Kez 🐾

Even clinic dogs need looking after!

Recently, Terry swapped his usual human patients for our resident Rottweiler, Kez, providing him with some canine osteopathy to help keep him moving comfortably and feeling his best.

As many of you know, Terry offers canine osteopathy, applying the same principles of movement, mobility and function that he uses with his human patients. While the patients may be a little hairier and less likely to follow instructions, the goal remains the same – helping them move as freely and comfortably as possible.

Kez was the perfect patient... mostly. There may have been a few demands for treats before treatment could begin! 🦴

Judging by the look on his face, we'd say he's quite happy with the service. Although we're not entirely convinced he wasn't just waiting for a biscuit afterwards! (Kez that is…) 😄

Feel free to share photos of your own four-legged family members below, we'd love to see them!
