I can definitely say I often become a hungry caterpillar 🐛 late at night. There are some great tips here on how to reduce those evening cravings ............ 🦋

So this popped up on my newsfeed (again! 🙄) ....

This meme is funny because so many people can relate to eating this way! We have good intentions, trying to eat healthy but end up restricting our food choices and amounts of food, too much. Leading to feeling deprived and hungry which leads to binge eating on all those foods we denied ourselves, which can lead to feelings of depression, guilt and shame. I used to eat like this and the guilt and emotional rollercoaster you go through, on a daily basis, is soul destroying. Its a very miserable way of being.

Does it sound familiar to you? If so, here are a few tips to try and break the cycle.

💜 97% of diets DON'T work! Restricting amounts or types of foods with the intention to lose weight, is dieting. Stop the diet! Instead make small sustainable changes that can be done for life. Make one small change, at a time and keep chipping away at your goals. Eat enough during the day to ensure feeling satisfied. Don't restrict foods, there are no 'good' and 'bad' foods.

💜 Change the focus from weight loss to health. Choose foods that nourish body and soul. If out with friends for coffee and cake and not having the cake would equal complete misery, then have the cake!

💜 Tune into hunger signals. Feeling hungry? no? why are you eating? boredom? feeling sad? happy? angry? If you turn to food for comfort, try and be aware of your triggers, have strategies in place to comfort you, without turning to food. Like.... listen to music, go for a walk, ring a friend. If you choose food, go with it, be kind to yourself, tomorrow is another day.

💜 Eat more during the day, include lots of vegetables, healthy fats and a decent portion of protein (chicken, eggs, meat, beans, hummus, lentils, fish etc) to breakfast and lunch. This will help improve satiety, by improving fullness and reduce chances of binging on the sweet stuff later on.

Food for thought .......... 🤔

🦄Quick, quick, listen up and lean in close because the goblins & warlocks & trolls & flesh eating slugs will be here any moment. They’ll frown and pout, scream and shout, and even wag their fingers right in our faces, both yours and mine. They’ll say things like calories don’t matter as long as you eat “clean,” eating late at night makes you fat, skipping breakfast ruins your metabolism, blibidee blabidee bloop.

☕️Now, you and I could sit up here in the astronomy tower & respectfully answer their curses and enchantments all day and night but odds are it wouldn’t do any good. No matter what we said or how much evidence we provided, they’d be stuck in their teeny, tiny, dogmatic little box of opinions, too stubborn to even consider the possibility of there being another way to succeed.

🦄So let’s do this. Let’s offer them a challenge, shall we? To every goblin and warlock and troll and flesh eating slug who wishes to bless us with their presence in the comments and say how wrong and stupid and dumb and ridiculous this is, I offer you a challenge.

☕️Try it. Just..try it.

🦄Think you can’t lose fat while eating “junk” even in a calorie deficit? Think you can’t lose fat while eating late at night even in a calorie deficit? Think you can’t lose fat while skipping breakfast even in a calorie deficit?

☕️Try it. Run an experiment on yourself. If you’re really for science and not dogmatic and really want to know the truth...give it an honest shot for 90 days straight. If it doesn’t work, great, keep doing what you’re doing.

🦄But if it does work, guess what? Now you have more tools in your tool box, you can help more people, and you can let people know there isn’t just one “right” way to do things. And isn’t that the best feeling in the world? Isn’t that what this is all about anyway? Helping people?

☕️Give it a shot. Try it out. Let me know how you do. And either way, agree or disagree, it’s all good in the end. I mean, we can still be friends even if we don’t agree on some nutritional nuances, right? RIGHT!?
