I picked up this beautiful bee when I was in Manchester last weekend.

Did you know the Manchester worker bee is one of the best-known symbols of Manchester and has been an emblem for the city for over 150 years. The bee denotes Mancunians' hard work ethic and the city being a hive of activity. It has also come to represent the sense of unity in the city.

We went for a coffee over the weekend to a lovely local shop and loved their bee hotel.

They also adopted the grass verge outside the shop and planted it with bee friendly plants to encourage pollinators.

Solitary bees are important pollinators and a gardener’s friend. Help them by building a bee hotel for your home or garden and watch them buzz happily about their business.

The small entrance was fragranced with peppermint essential oil, which the shop owner told us was used to deter the bees from flying into the shop.

Peppermint oil on its own has been shown to act as a natural repellent for wasps and bees, or you can use a combination of clove, geranium, and lemongrass essential oils as a natural pest control method.

Put a few drops in your diffuser to keep any unwanted insects at bay.
