You might have heard of both of these weight loss treatments in the press - so what's the difference?

Broadly speaking, nothing!

They are not semaglutide, a GLP-1 agonist that helps you eat less and loose weight.

They are both made by NovoNordisk and they even come in similar packaging.

The difference lies in their medical licensing which is controlled by the MHRA.

Ozempic is licensed for diabetes, and not for weightloss. Whereas wegovy is licensed for weightloss.

So which should you use?

Wegovy where possible as this is within its license.

Ozempic can be used off license along as the patient is made aware and the prescriber takes responsibility.

Supply of both medicines is still hit and miss and I'm using a mixture in clinic currently.

Anti wrinkle treatments are generally well tolerated and need little downtime.

I would say in 99% of cases they are a true 'lunchtime' treatment in that you could get in it done in your lunch break and return to work!!

I use the finest needles available, take my time to avoid visible blood vessels, use a gentle skin prep, change the needles regularly to avoid trauma and if you do bleed, I take the time to apply some pressure for a couple of minutes to try and avoid a visible bruise!

That said, bleeding, bruising and swelling do sometimes occur, however the incidence of this in my practice is very small.
