Safety is key. So, when you're looking for an aesthetic practitioner what should you be looking for? One of things that you must consider is - what can go wrong? These treatments, whilst non-surgical in nature, still carry high risks. Poorly administered Botox in or around the eyes and forehead can result in drooping brows and eyelids, and (very rarely) blindness. Likewise, intradermal filler injections to the lips and face can result in vascular occlusion, which can lead to tissue necrosis. The results of which are distressing to say the least.

So here are some top tips on choosing a aesthetic practitioner:

As with any aesthetic treatment things can go wrong and your practitioner must be able to, not only recognise the signs but must be able to deal with complications. Ask if they are trained in emergency first aid and complications.

Are they available 24/7?? Sometimes an emergency can arise hours after treatment such as delayed vascular occlusion. Your practitioner should be contactable should an emergency arises.

Aesthetic treatments should be carried out in a clean and sterilised environment. Safety and hygiene should be top priority with all good practitioners.

Do not feel rushed in having a treatment done! Practitioner should take the time in a consultation and answer questions a client may have. They should be given time to go away and consider the treatment. A good practitioner will sometimes turn away clients if they feel their client is not suitable for treatment or cannot meet their expectations.

Ensure they are using EU approved products and it comes from a pharmacy.
