Not all hair is the same to work with so we give some of our students the chance to experience different textures.
This is some knotting from one of our students who attended the 'introduction to wigmaking' workshops.
She experimented with European, Asian, synthetic hair and finally with mohair.

I spent a lovely few days with this lady, learning all about Canada 🇨🇦 and wigs.

Brooklyn had dreamt of coming to the UK to work in the film Industry as a makeup artist.

In Canada and the US, makeup and hair are separate departments, so although this young lady has many years of makeup experience in her home country, she has minimal experience with hair and wigs. She has spent the last 3 months completing her hairdressing and barbering qualifications and we were her last stop before moving North to find her new home.

We focused on the skills and techniques that would most benefit her working on a makeup truck in the UK.

During her 3 days we covered: clingfilming blocks, blocking of full lace wigs and hard fronted wigs, washing and setting of both real hair and synthetic wigs with rollers and bendies, finger waves, Marcel waves, Victorian hairstyles, breaking down of elaborate styles, single and double knotting, whipping and fixing of holes within wig foundations. Oh and I forgot...headwraps!

So yesterday, I went and collected a few wigs from a set nearby. They had a few wigs that needed hair adding. So this is one of them, you can see the difference in the 2 photos.
I had to find some hair in my stock that would blend into the existing hair, and row by row knot hair through the parting making sure there were no holes that didn't have a hair.
So from this you can see, that some wigs can be salvaged even when you think they're not use-able and refurbishment is alot cheaper than a brand new wig!

This is one of our many courses and the most popular! It gives you a taste of wigmaking and is the first step towards being able to apply for our more advanced courses.

We are aware wig making is not for everyone, even when you are sure it's something you want to pursue, it sometimes just isn't for you. So, we offer this taster course at a reasonable price for you to make an informed decision before making a big financial commitment.

Today we are meticulously working through the front and top section of this client's wig. We are working a grey through to give it a more natural look and cooler tone. Due to the hair being a light blonde it is too risky to try lift the colour any further, so the best option is to knot the colour through.
