🚨 Extreme heat is on the way, with temperatures forecast to reach 39°C or higher this week, alongside very high UV levels.
Protect yourself and those around you by:
☀️ Staying out of direct sun between 10am and 4pm
💧 Drinking plenty of water regularly
🧴 Applying and reapplying SPF 30+ sunscreen
👒 Wearing a hat, sunglasses and light, loose-fitting clothing
🌳 Seeking shade whenever possible
👵 Checking in on older relatives, neighbours and vulnerable people
Heat and UV exposure can both be dangerous.
Take precautions, stay cool and stay safe.

‼ Melanoma is less common in people with dark or black skin, but it's associated with greater morbidity and mortality.
WHY?
Because there is a general misconception that people with darker skin tones are immune to skin cancer and because the early signs and symptoms are often more difficult to detect.
When melanoma does occur, the most common places a tumour may develop include areas of lighter skin, such as:
• Under the nails (subungual melanoma - like Bob Marley who sadly died of the disease)
• The palms of the hands, the soles of the feet (acral lentiginous melanoma)
• Mucous membranes (such as inside the mouth)
• The anogenital region
👉 It is imperative that all skin types check their skin regularly (once a month) from the top of their head to the soles of their feet for the early signs and symptoms - and seek immediate advice from a qualified healthcare practitioner with concerns of anything NEW, UNUSUAL or CHANGING.
👀 Skin cancer comes in many forms and many guises! For all the tools, tips and tricks to help you learn more and take charge of your skin health and surveillance, install the SKCIN app on your mobile device:

💙 MEN'S HEALTH WEEK 💙
Men are 69% more likely to die from skin cancer than women.
Too often, the signs are missed, ignored, or left too late.
But early detection saves lives.
One observation.
One conversation.
That can make all the difference.
A changing mole. A new mark. A spot that doesn't look right.
Sometimes it takes someone else to notice. A partner, friend, colleague, parent, sibling, or even a child.
This Men's Health Week, take a moment to check in with the men in your life.
Encourage them to protect their skin, check for changes, and seek advice if something doesn't look right.
Looking out for one another has power.
Together, we can help save lives. 💙
