I just didn’t realize we were supposed to be whispering it.

“My surgeon said I’d be back to normal in 2 weeks…”

I hear this all the time.

The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all recovery after a tummy tuck.

In my experience, recovery depends on so many factors:
🔸Was it a mini tummy tuck, full tummy tuck, 360 or fleur-de-lis?
🔸Did you also have liposuction or muscle repair?
🔸How well did you prepare before surgery?
🔸Are you following your surgeon’s advice, wearing your garments correctly, eating well and looking after yourself?
🔸Has your healing been straightforward, or have there been complications?

One thing I’ve learnt after treating so many post-op clients is that age isn’t always the deciding factor. I’ve seen clients in their 50s recover quicker than those in their 20s because they prepared properly, took recovery seriously, and followed every step of their post-op plan.

The same applies to post-operative therapists.

Please don’t tell every tummy tuck client they will need the same number of sessions. Every body heals differently. Every surgery is different. Every appointment should include a reassessment, and the treatment plan should evolve with the client’s recovery.

The best recoveries don’t happen by chance—they’re planned.

Choose your surgeon carefully, find an experienced post-operative therapist before your surgery, prepare your body beforehand, and have your aftercare organised before you even step into theatre. That’s how you give yourself the best chance of a smoother recovery and the best possible results.

This lovely client is just four weeks post-op, and her recovery has been incredible. But this isn’t the end of her journey. We’ll now move from weekly treatments into a next phase, supporting her healing as her body continues to recover over the coming weeks.
Recovery doesn’t stop just because the swelling has reduced—it’s a process, and every stage matters.

If you’re planning to book your surgery, dm me, don’t wait until afterwards to think about your recovery. Let’s create your personalised post operative recovery plan before your procedure, so you can go into surgery feeling prepared and supported every step of the way.

Some advice sounds safe… but it keeps you small.

I’m glad I ignored the advice to blend in, stay basic, undercharge, and treat specialist work like it is “just massage.”💯

Post-op recovery is a specialist skill. If you want to feel confident, professional and prepared with real clients, you need proper training, not guesswork.💪

Abdominoplasty - The most common surgery I’m treating in clinic right now… and this is what an excellent recovery looks like. 🙌

One of the questions I’m asked most often is, “What should my tummy tuck recovery look like?”

This client came to me just 2 days after her abdominoplasty, wearing PICO™ dressings. Many people think these dressings are only used when there’s a complication, but that’s not the case.

PICO dressings are often applied proactively by the surgeon to support healing, protect the incision, and help reduce the risk of wound complications. They’re becoming increasingly common after abdominoplasty in the UK, and I’ll be talking more about them in another post because they’re a really interesting part of modern post-operative care.

From there, we supported her recovery with post-operative treatments, regular monitoring, and a structured aftercare plan. Once the incision had healed, we introduced silicone gel and silicone tape to help scar healing.

By 8 weeks post-op, she was ready to be discharged from my care. Although swelling can continue to improve for up to 12 months (and sometimes even longer), she now only needs occasional maintenance treatments.

This has genuinely been one of the smoothest recoveries I’ve seen. The surgeon’s work was exceptional, the client followed her aftercare perfectly, and the results speak for themselves.

A beautiful result doesn’t happen by chance—it comes from skilled surgery, the right aftercare, and a client who commits to the healing process.

Have you heard of PICO dressings before? Let me know below, and I’ll explain more about them in my next post.

Post-op massage is not “just massage.”💯

After surgery, the body needs careful, informed, specialist support. Swelling, fluid retention, fibrosis, scar tissue and tenderness all require the right approach at the right stage of healing.❤️‍🩹

That is why training matters.

A good post-op therapist does not just follow a routine. They understand when to treat, when not to treat, what to look for, and when a client should be referred back to their surgeon or medical team.

Post-op recovery deserves safe, professional care.

What a month June has been…

A month full of beautiful memories, busy days, plenty of travel, and most importantly, time spent with the people I love the most and in the places that mean the most to me.

I’m incredibly grateful for every opportunity, every lesson, every laugh, and every moment that reminded me how important it is to slow down and appreciate the journey.

Here’s a little recap of my June through the photos, some work, some adventures, and lots of gratitude❤️
