Take a look at the home care brands available which are chosen for your specific skin needs ✨✨✨

I say it all the time, a home care routine is more important to start with than a course of treatments. If you aren’t supporting your own efforts of booking in treatments then you can’t expect the same results 😭🫠

Acne Progress 📢 Update 📢

If you checked out my stories this week you will have seen this wonderful clients initial progress from one treatment and an introduction to skin care.

Here we have her results from another extraction session and continued use of skin care 🥳
Between 2 photographs are:
2x extraction sessions
13 days of selected home care

Acne history: many closed comedones (white heads that aren’t pus), blackheads, presents with papules and pustules regularly which leave red marks (PIE post inflammatory erythema)

As this client is prone to build up within the pores we are beginning a course of resurfacing treatments aiming to:
Increase skin cell turnover
Reduce inflammation
Reduce excess oil and bacteria
Brighten and smooth the skin texture and tone

Stay tuned for further progress 😍✨🙏

UV radiation is by far the most damaging form of solar radiation, even though it only accounts for the minority of total ☀️ radiation ☀️

I’ll talk about the other forms of solar radiation in another post, but since UV is more damaging let’s have a look at the main culprits:

UVA and UVB 💥

UVA and UVB rays damage DNA in slightly different ways…

Due to UVAs longer wavelength and lower energy, it is not directly absorbed by our DNA 🧬 but instead, it is absorbed by other non DNA chromophores and causes the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS - a type of free radical). It is the free radical that then damages the DNA. This free radical also activates the increase of enzymes (MMP) that degrade matrix proteins like collagen and elastin 😢
This destruction is considered the trademark of premature ageing from excess unprotected UV exposure.

UVB however has a shorter wavelength and also has more energy than UVA, so it can cause more damage to the skin. In the epidermis (outer layer) there are several key naturally occurring molecules that absorb UV radiation; - DNA, urocanic acid, amino acids and melanin. When UV radiation is absorbed by DNA it can cause damage that can lead to genetic mutations. Our cells usually work hard to reverse this damage but if the damage remains uncorrected it can lead to the formation of skin cancers.

Wearing a broad spectrum SPF30 minimum can help prevent an array of damage to your skin - most importantly irreversible damage that could lead to serious health concerns.
Adding an antioxidant into your routine can also help stop these pesky free radicals from doing their dirty work 🤓

Progress Post 📢

Hyperpigmentation AKA dark spots.

In between these two photographs:

- x2 laser pigment removal sessions
- MELA serum and MELA recovery, daily use with SPF.

What is hyperpigmentation?
The over production of melanin that have been over stimulated by cells called melanocytes.

Causes:
Sun damage/ excess UV exposure.
Post inflammatory (from uncontrolled or controlled trauma)
Hormones.
Some medications can make you more sensitive to sunlight therefore more prone to sun damage.

The pathway to clearing pigmentation is not linear. In fact, it can for some people be difficult to treat. Patience, consistency and diligence with home care are paramount to clearing pigmentation 💛

At home care must be addressed before treatments start and should include:
- tyrosinase inhibitors
- SPF protection
- resurfacing ingredients

One of the biggest skin care myths is that your pores can open and close.

In reality, our pore size is largely determined by genetics - but it can be influenced by pollution and UV exposure which will break down collagen and elastin over time ( as well as increasing oil production 😖)

Newly enlarged pores can occur for two reasons:
1. Excess oil production can stretch a pore
2. Reduced collagen and elastin levels from ageing or UV exposure can cause the structure of the pore to sag/loosen, giving the appearance or larger pores.

While splashing cold water on your face won’t close your pores, there are some things you can do to reduce their appearance and tighten the slack pore caused by ageing;

Reduce oil production and safely extract blocked pores if necessary.
Increase skin cell turnover to prevent cells building up inside the pore (use acids such as glycolic, lactic, citric or begin using retinoids/vitamin A).
Wear SPF to prevent cellular damage caused by UV rays or pollution.

Treatments to consider:
Extraction sessions for blocked pores.
Microneedling, radio frequency or laser for collagen production.
MesoTox or Aquagold (superficial microneedling and mesotherapy) that utilises special serums and toxin to help tighten the pore.

And FYI having pores in general is normal! We all have them and need them. If you’ve noticed that your pores have changed size and it bothers you, take a look at the chart and see you what can do at home to address them ✨✨✨

Take away what you don’t use and the routine is still correct ✨

📢 you don’t need to exfoliate every day (if you use an acid based toner you get 2in1 with hydration but I still feel these forms of exfoliation are overused unnecessarily)

📢 a serum is not a facial oil. One hydrates/ drives actives - the other addresses lipid layer and can form a barrier

📢 you don’t necessarily NEED a separate eye cream unless you are concerned with ageing, dark circles, puffiness or even allergies

📢 toners are a great way to add in hydration or lesser amounts of other actives, they aren’t essential but boy I love them in a routine!

📢 SPF all day everyday if you want to protect your skin from absolute chaos! (Joke 😆) chaos won’t ensue but you can age more rapidly and exacerbate skin conditions- no thanks 🙏

LIPS 👄

Natural but noticeable is 🔑

Lips are the focal point of the face but they don’t have to be massive to be beautiful. 👑⠀

Here we have delicately placed hyaluronic acid using a nano needle and micro droplets to hydrate, reshape and plump the lip. ✨

And here we have it, a crisp cupids bow, a pillow soft bottom, and as always... juicy as ever! ✨

* did you know swelling can take between 2-14 days to subside? That’s if you get any at all 😊 everyone is so different, but the more changes we try to make such as creating a new shape or defined Cupid’s bow, there more likely it is you will have swelling. This lady has a little more swelling in her top lip as more injections were used. She healed beautifully well within 5 days and no noticeable bruising ☝🏼✨✨

‘ My biggest fear about getting lip filler was my parents noticing...needless to say they didn’t! I opted for a super natural look and it was so subtle that they didn’t suspect a thing! ‘

What is your biggest fear about getting a treatment which might be holding you back? ⠀

And for those who have gone for it, was it worth it? Was it really as bad as you thought it would be?!
