Yesterday we showed simulated examples of the same woman's eyes with and without defined limbal rings (the dark border around the iris), and explained that defined limbal rings are a reliable indicator of youth. In this post you can see how our eyes lose limbal ring definition as we age.

Research has shown that people with more pronounced limbal rings are often perceived as younger, and that a pronounced limbal ring in adults is percieved as more attractive. A 2011 study by Brown et al. found that limbal rings are associated with health and fertility, making them a subtle yet powerful signal of vitality and youthfulness.

Did you know that limbal rings (the dark circle around the iris) can play a role in perceived attractiveness? Studies suggest that prominent limbal rings are often associated with youth, health, and vitality, making them an appealing feature. As we age, these rings naturally fade, so their presence can subtly signal a youthful appearance.

We have simulated both green and brown eye colours, with both defined and undefined limbal rings. Arguably the irises with the defined limbal rings are more attractive, regardless of eye colour, and this characteristic is arguably more important than the overall colour of the eye when it comes to beauty.
