One day a farmer’s donkey fell into a well. The animal cried loudly for hours, while the farmer tried to find something to do to get him out.

Finally, the farmer decided that the donkey was old and the well was already dry and needed to be covered anyway; that it really wasn't worth pulling the donkey out of the well..

He invited all his neighbors to come help him. They each grabbed a shovel and began to throw dirt into the well.

The donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly loud. Then, to everyone's surprise, he quieted down after a few shovelfuls of dirt.

The farmer finally looked down into the well and was amazed at what he saw... with each shovelful of dirt, the donkey was doing something incredible: It was shaking off the dirt and stepping on top of the dirt.

Very soon everyone saw surprised how the donkey reached the mouth of the well, went over the edge and trotted out...

Life is going to throw dirt at you, all kinds of dirt... the trick to getting out of the hole is to shake it off and use it to step up. Each of our problems is a step up. We can get out of the deepest holes if we don't give up...

Use the land they throw you to get ahead!!!

5. Love more and... shake the dirt, because in this life you have to be a solution, not the problem!

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is proposing to restrict the use of certain substances in tattoo inks and permanent make-up. It's thought it will match the EU's restriction on hazardous substances in tattoo inks.

A friend of mine was recently having trouble with a neighbour. There was a dispute around an extension being built and it had all got a little out of hand.

My friend knew they were 100% legally in the right, but they decided to approach a solicitor to get some official help.

The solicitor said they could write a letter, on headed paper, directly to the troublesome neighbour to put an end to the nonsense.

My friend agreed and paid the sum of (approximately as I didn’t ask specifics) £350 for this to be done.

Now, I’d imagine that that solicitor had written letters like this countless times.

Probably so many that their paralegal would write it for them and they’d just sign the bottom.

And yet, they charge £350.

For a letter. A Piece of printed a4 paper and a stamp with a few words on it.

But, really, we aren’t paying for a piece of paper and a stamp, are we?

We are paying for -

Their knowledge
Their experience
Their understanding of the situation
Their ability to help us get a result that we want
Their years at law school
Their office costs
Their admin costs
Their time
Their expertise
Their logo at the top of the page

I could have written a letter to her neighbour, but it wouldn’t have had any power, clout or meaning, because I am not a legal professional.

My friend paid for the power behind the service, not the physical delivery of a letter.

Remember that when you’re next challenged for charging your worth.

Remember that solicitor and her letters that cost £350.

I’m 100% sure she never apologised to my friend for the price or agreed to discount.

She knew she had the ability to get a result for her client, and she charged for the result that happened.

That’s what costs the money. Not the letter, the ink, the headed paper.

And that’s what costs the money for us. Not the polish, oil or toner.

The knowledge, the expertise and the experience.

Our work is our business logo and we should charge with pride for our clients to wear our skills.
