Amidst all of the drama and mental fatigue that has engulfed the industry over the past few weeks, I wanted to pop in to encourage each of you to consider the ways in which you approach the changes that are continuously imminent within the nail industry, both now and in future. I have always believed that the mature and professional way to approach any change that, undoubtedly, may only ‘momentarily’ affect you - whether this be the discontinuation of your favourite products or the change in formulas for same - isn’t to do so teetering on the edge of fear, but to use this change as a reminder of your God-given, effort-earned skills. Think of it as a new challenge to be conquered. Remember when you first started doing nails, so full of passion and desire to improve - even when every single application peeled away from you? Back then, it wouldn’t have mattered what you used, the results would remain the same. And guess what? With continued practice, tweaking and patience, you eventually arrived at the height of the amazing nail artist that you now are.

Changes will come; brands will be forced to adapt and relearn, as such, so will you and I. It’s also important to remember that what has changed for just today, will very likely be a looming change for the masses tomorrow. So, just buckle up and embrace a new challenge whilst still choosing to pour love into the brand/s that held you and your clients down throughout the many years, as a level of grace is certainly warranted.

I welcome you to take a stroll against the grain with me! Having perfected my soft. gel application technique over the past few years, I can confidently say that maintaining optimum nail growth using solely a soft gel like BIAB or builder gel is very achievable. My client has retained her length over just 3 appointments, which most reflects how well the strength of the nail/ apex was positioned. Below are a few ‘long nail’ home truths to remember:

- being confident in maintaining clients with short nails does not mean that this skill is automatically transferable to clients with long nails. This is often why some nail techs may struggle with seamless applications on clients with longer nails

- while the concept is relatively the same, longer nails do require a slightly different knowledge of product placement and application than needed for short nails

- long nails require the use of more product, but this should not be reflected in the overall finish; knowing exactly where to place the additional gel is what matters most i.e. no bulky nails

- using a hard gel vs a soft gel will not result in improved maintenance of clients with long nails if the application technique is not practiced and perfected. The nails will still be prone to cracking/ chipping

- free edge protection matters, and is one of the most crucial steps in achieving a long-lasting, long nails manicure sans product lifting

I have been donning the new coloured builder gel on my long nails for a week now and can happily report that it applies beautifully and has shown great durability and lasting potential. Not a doubt in sight that this will age perfectly for weeks; and no better proof than seamless wear on these talons!

Yesterday was a buzz-filled day for the debut of Team BuffHerNailsUK at for a collaboration event with x - a day packed with all things hair and nails as we collectively undertook 5 sessions of press and journalists as they gained insight on Voshbon and their innovative hair and skin range (one unlike any other that I’ve ever experienced), and enjoyed the treat of a Voshbon inspired 14 Day Manicure mani using their HEMA and TPO-free range of gels 💅

So overwhelmingly grateful for God’s blessings as he remains fruitful in my life. To the 4 beautiful souls that I choose with ‘true’ intentionality to join me for day, I enjoyed watching each of you flourish in your NOW and you should all be so, so proud of yourselves!!

Sometimes trying something new only further solidifies what you love the most. 5 weeks of flawlessly squared BIAB..meets the favourable return to almond. This is certainly where she belongs!
