Trigger points (muscle knots)

These are muscle fibres that stick to each other and become adhered causing the muscles to contract and spasm which stops blood flow starving the tissue of oxygen and nutrients which of course manifests into pain.

Sometimes we don't even know we have them until we touch or press on them commonly found in our trapezius muscles. When pushing down on a trigger point often we will feel pain elsewhere which is called referred pain.

Example, that headache you wake up with may be coming from a trigger point in your neck 😮
Don't ever assume that where we feel the pain is where the problem originates from.
