most people think it’s their curls, it’s not. it’s the small things you’re doing every wash day. fix that and your curls actually start lasting…
go through this and see what you’re still doing
save it for next wash day 💅🏽✨

i used to hold onto length for as long as possible, even when my ends were dry and not really doing anything for me. i thought if i just added the right product, i could fix it, but my hair never actually improved. it wouldn’t absorb the products and just felt more weighed down and dry.
what changed things was focusing on health instead. trimming when I needed to, using less and actually prioritising hydration. it sounds simple, but it made the biggest difference.
i still want to grow my curls, but I’ve realised holding onto dead ends was what was stopping it. once my hair was healthier, it started growing in a way that actually lasts.
that shift is a big part of why I started ILI. not to overcomplicate things, just to focus on what actually works.

somewhere along the way, we were taught our natural hair needed fixing. too frizzy. too big. too unruly.
so we straightened it, brushed it out, hid it, controlled it.
but what if it was never the hair that was the problem?
what if it was just the way we were taught to treat it?
this is what it looks like when you stop fighting your texture and start understanding it instead. not perfect. not uniform. not tamed.
just real curls, in all their different forms.

dehydrated curls will make you think you just have bad hair. you don’t.
get a trim, deep condition weekly, and add hydration. once your hair can actually absorb moisture, everything else starts working. ➰✨

slicked back curls.
it’s not the best style to do every single day, but when you do:
➰add a little leave-in or curl cream before brushing so the hair stays soft underneath
➰lightly mist with water first (brushing curls dry can cause breakage)
➰keep it smooth, not super tight to avoid tension on your hairline
it really could all be this simple.
turns out natural texture isn’t complicated…we were just taught they were. it just needed less effort and a little more care.
volume tip:
use an Afro pick to pick at the roots. 🪮🤍
